    Default New Idea for SS. King Kong tell me what you think

    First off i am not a modder. I can do some small scipting and tet work but nothing big. I did have a good idea that i would LOVE to see in SS. My idea is to reduce the amount of all the resources on the Cam. map and only have 1 or 2 per region. Then the type of troops you can produce and the type of buildings you can construct would be based on the resources you have. There would be 2 way to have access to a resource.....either you own in your own region or you have trade rights with the faction that does. For example

    If a faction does not have access to iron. It cannot produce certain heavy armored units. and if you don;t have access to sulfur you cannot produce anything with gunpowder. and if you don;t have good timbers maybe you can't make catapults or maybe you can't construct wooden walls?


    A mod like this would make several provinces VERY valuable and almost constantly at war to protect their assets. I think with some more planning and some good AI to understand the value of certain resources it could really add even more thought to managing an empire. i really think it could be very good with the right modder.

    Is something like this even possible or is this bound by the hardcoding limits??

    Personally I do not really know...I HOPE it is possible. Assuming it is, it is DIFFICULT to implement.

    Do what I do, if you do not see something you want that someone already made, do it yourself!

    (but these kind of changes will take you a few months)

    Hi formulapower,

    Well, first of all I have to say that I really like the idea! It would make the game much more tactical and complex!
    However, as M2 Junky said, the idea was already discussed and I doubt that this is even possible.
    Consider only these two problems:
    - We would need a complex trade system, so that factions can recruit i.e. plated units even when they have no iron as a ressource.
    - The AI has not "learned" to trade, how should this be done?

    Well, I think you see that this would be very hard to make and probably this is also hardcoded...

    ya , i know, plus resources are very valuable in the game, throwing some of them away is just too stupid

    Hey if you got Timbuktu could you get a "Golden Guard" ancillary that who say something to the effect of "Protected by warriors of such high nobility and rank that there regular armor is of gold. Personal Security +3"

    The point where such a system would break down, as KK pointed out, is the introduction of the word "trade". So the question would become not "do I own an iron resource", but "do i own an iron resource or have trade rights with someone that owns an iron resource" or even " do i own an iron resource or have trade rights with someone who owns an iron resource or have trade rights with someone who has trade rights with someone who owns an iron resource". The whole idea of trade rights is that you're trading something you have to someone who wants it in return for something they have that you want.

    Even accounting for the presence of a resource locally to provide either a training cost discount and/or armor upgrade would potentially make export_descr_buildings nightmarishly complex. Just check out an edb from a mod that uses AOR/ZOR (usually controlled by hidden resources).

    Hey, Poisoner, I'd love to face a unit wearing solid gold armor! Extra weight and reduced protecting for them makes for mighty profitable plundering for me!

    It sounds like a great idea. But I doubt the AI is up to the task
