Default Mongols can't be defeated? ARRRGH!

    This is unbelievable!!! ARRRGH!

After an epic fight against the Mongols lasting nearly 100 years, my Byzantines holding on by their fingernails, we'd finally weathered the 12 "Stacks of Doom" and weakened them enough to go on the counteroffensive.

Using LTC 2.3 and Klink's garrison script, it was a hard slog into Iasi, then Kiev, and finally Hyacli (sp?) W of Kiev. My Byzantines besiege the Mongols in their last remaining city. It's an epic battle that I nearly lose... but my Byz troops finally rally and defeat the Mongols at the last second.

It was an incredibly satisfying end to an epic war against those hated invaders. As I smile broadly, sacking the town and preparing to watch the "Faction Eliminated" message, I'm astonished to see 3 nearly full stacks of elite Mongol troops escape the city and reposition just NW. Then I receive a message saying "The Mongols are Coming!", a faction on the move looking for a home.

    WTF!?!?!

I click on these stacks, and out of nowhere, they've repopulated themselves with the best Mongols troops - Lancers, Heavy Archers, Mongol Infantry...

This is ridiculous. Can the Mongols EVER be exterminated?

They're a horde faction, as soon as you take their last settlement they become a horde. You'll need to eliminate their family members.

    Lusted,

Thanks as always for the fast response. I still can't figure out how you manage to stay atop all these threads. ;>

OK, so I need to take out the family members. But I had them cornered in the last city. When my family members get cornered in a siege, they die. They don't get to flee out the back gate.

Do I need to assassinate these guys? Or will defeating them in battle when they don't have a home city end up eliminating them once and for all. At this point, it's becoming an irrational blood feud to wipe these guys out after all the trouble they've given me.

Yeah if you eliminate them in battle that should be the end of them. Otherwise use assassins.

I found it funny how I ultimately defeated the Mongols. I took the first major blow of their strength when they first came to the Middle East as they defeated me in the battle for Antioch. They then moved on to fight the Turks, Russians, and later on, the Byzantines. I witnessed the beginning of the war they had with the Byzantines and at first the Mongols were kicking their ass. I was allied with the Byz and helped them a lot by giving them a good amount of coin every now and then. My spy later died and I lost view of how the war was going.

Many years later, the Mongols, still without a home base for some crazy reason, came back, approaching Adana, and to my surprise, their numbers were really cut down. The Byz must have really kick their butts out of Asia Minor. At the time, I already strong armies in the area, so I cleaned up the left overs and that was all she wrote. Now I have the Timurids breathing down my neck in Antioch.
