i read somewhere the colloseum can only be build in the year it was actually build (80 AD).

So Carthage will be extremely weak at the campaign start? That's going to be an awfully tough faction to play...
will there be different reforms then?
like marian (100bc), augustian (+- 10bc), new armour (+- 50ad), more protection for arm and new helmet (+- 100ad)?
if so, will those reforms occur on their real date?
at the beginnin i put carthage strong because it's in war with numidia and to make their aggressivity different from the vanilla where carthage always annihilated in 3 turns... but people in my team preferred to put them very weak because with my settings, punics has conquered 1 settlement and they told me carthage became a superpowered nation just for that. at difference with rome that is very very strong. i fully disagree with this thing. carthage's army cant go three miles away from their capital, rome can go everywhere till okinawa with the excuse that only roman survived and become an empire
so situation now: Carthaginian armies must stay home and be defeated (in my campaign, numidians annihilated me. roman faction can conquer the whole iberia, and france in 10 turns or less
this is only my opinion
Well your team has a point -- in the time frame of your campaign, Carthage was very weak -- it was not allowed to expand, or even to treat diplomatically without Roman consent. It was just a shadow of its former self. Which is why I think maybe you should start the campaign later, then you can elminate Carthage and free up the faction slot...
i dont remember that RTW is a real full history simulator.... it's a total war game and the CA made the game with the intention that all the factions can win at the end.... i never read in readmes that just rome must be the only one at the end
When i played with julii with the vanilla version, many times i lost battles or my faction has been annihilated playin VH/VH. now roman is never in danger, 3 legionaries beats 2000 enemies with a frontal charge etc, any roman unit has higher stats than the other countries and their elite units too etc...
if i show u the screen bout my game, u can see romans sieging sarmatians settlements in sarmatian territories... that's crazy
just my opinion.....
I agree totally. But the problem with the 170BC start date is that Carthage no longer had any chance to 'win'. It was a rump state at the mercy of Rome; the moment the Romans decided they'd had enough, they invaded and BOOM! it was over. I think you have the right principle, I'm just not sure your start date allows Carthage to be a viable power. But of course you can 'fudge' things a bit to make it more fun.
I guess I'm unsure why you chose that start date. What are the reasons behind it?
if in reality carthage was so weak why romans havent destroyed carthage in 180 or 190BC instead to attack the carthaginian allies (the macedonians)??????? and if they were so stronger than punics, why did they make attack the numidians instead of themselves???? Simply because Carthage was full resuscitate, with the agricolture and tessile industry they made more money than before...the war taxes were regularry paid etc They didnt want to fight again... that's the reason why punics never reformed the army after hannibal Exile
i make un an example:
Cold war.... two superpowers as USA and USSR fightin, 1990 the fall of the
berlin wall... after that fall, do u think Russia is no more a superpower or it's always because in 2007 has still massive money, the military tech and the weapons?
Because Carthage was paying them money -- lots of money -- as reparations for the 2nd Punic War, and because Carthage was abiding by the peace treaty.if in reality carthage was so weak why romans havent destroyed carthage in 180 or 190BC instead to attack the carthaginian allies (the macedonians)???????
Which would be interesting -- could you set the game up so that Carthage starts as a Protectorate of Rome, paying an annual tribute? That would be much more accurate than having them a powerful rival to Rome.
Not a valid example. The only claim Russia might still have to 'superpower' status is its military power. Carthage had no significant military left, it was disarmed. Which is why Rome let it be -- it wasn't a threat.i make un an example:
My contention has been, as Cherry well knows, that the moment you click the start campaign button, history goes out the window. You 'make' history with who you play and how you play the game. Thus, I have argued 'ad nauseum' (for my team) that every faction in Roma Surrectum should have a chance for someone to play them and win. Otherwise, you have factions that are essentially worhtless, and better replaced with something that isn't worthless. So why make beautiful units, and spend all the time an energy on making Carthage look great, only to put them in a position where anyone playing them might as well surrender the first battle, destroy their cities, and go kill their characters?
I would be willing to guarantee that Cassus Belli will have more fans and interest in a 'viable' Carthage faction with which the player can win, rather than a pushover rump state of Rome that has no chance from the get-go. History be hanged! Make them a power in the player's hands. That's what this is all about anyway. It's a game.
You guys know I have the greatest respect for your work and this mod, but hearing this, I just have to say I think it is a big mistake IMHO.

It's not so. Carthage in our mod starts with its territories in 170 a.C., surroundend by numidians and without a big army. That's the historically correct starting situation. Howewer you can take cartaginians and bring them to victory, like all the others factions, also because of their strong units. But you start in difficoulties, not in a normal situation of wellness, and it's right.
Roman steel, that's the answer!
That will probably work pretty well. The AI will have such a tough time that it'll die out, likely killed by Numidia. A human player might have a chance to resurrect Carthage, but it should be a very tough campaign...
will there be 0 turn to recruit??? and what are tha roman factions??
