    Default HOTFIX112

Ok, here is the new hotfix with Angel's new stats and many economic changes. Those who can, please play the crap out of this, because I would like it to be the last Hotfix we release before moving on to all the changes.

    http://files.filefront.com/HOTFIX112.../fileinfo.html

I'm especially concerned about the small factions and how these settings affect their playability...Spain, Dacia, Pergamum, etc. They seem to do well 'AI-wise', but I'd like a player's eyes to spot any difficulties.

Yes. I've been plugging it into my own saved games right along, so I know it is.

I found a 'disparity' in the current setup that I have fixed...suprised no one noticed it. Because you can only build Imperial Palaces in certain places (mainly regions with a 'capitol' resource), this prevents cities from actually 'becoming' huge cities, even though the dialogue pops up and says you should upgrade the city (24000 people). Apparently, because the city cannot BE a Huge City, it then cannot build huge city buildings.

I don't think that's exactly right, afterall, it would prevent the largest temples, city plumbing, farms, etc that require 'huge city'. So I've changed this so that any large city can build these buildings.

I'm still tweaking away at this, and making good progress I think...but what you're playing now with this Hotfix is essentially the way it's going to be.
Money is much tighter. I've made distance and other culture\AOR economic penalties a lot stiffer, and the result has been a rather steady cash flow...but never more than you can or have to use.

Although there are still a good many armies and good competition, I'm at 210BC and there are nowhere near so many armies as there were before.

I like the economy so far, but I think the Free People should be throttled back a bit -- maybe reduce their stats a little, and reduce the numbers of full stacks they have at the start of the campaign -- some of their regions have 4 or more full stacks which just seems too much to me...

dvk, I think part of the Free People issue is the number of full stacks you gave them at the start, can you cut it back by maybe a third, and nudge their stats down?

Answer 1: When I get the new map, this will be all redone. However, I know how you like to play...and quite frankly, that is a problem. A '0' turn mod is meant to be played with full or near full stack armies. That's just the way it is. That means that in order for the Free People to be of ANY use at all, they have to have full stack armies too. But as I said, I want to do a much better strategic layout with the new map...from scratch.

Answer 2: No. The whole reason the Free People in general perform as well as they do is because they have many of the same units and the same stats as other factions. To dumb their stats would just turn them into pushovers again.
I'm even irritated that there are such crummy units spawned in Italy and some other areas, and will fix it. I want 'auto-resolve' to be dirty word in this mod.

Other ideas I'm going to put in the 'realism' thread.

Dvk, for the problem of not being able to build certain buildings until the city is huge size. You said you were changing it so they could be built at large city size, any chance you could change the conditions so that those settlements that can grow to huge size cannot build the building unless an imperial_palace is present?

No, I can't do that and still have them available elsewhere. When a city changes from Large city to Huge, population goes over 24000 and you're 'supposed' to build an Imperial Palace....but those buildings, for some reason, were not showing up at all if the Imperial Palace couldn't BE built there. When I changed the requirement to 'large_city', all of a sudden they all showed up.

What I could do, in a sort of reverse way, is put another condition on the Imperial Palace that certain of those buildings must ALREADY be built...for example: 'and building_present_min_level defenses large_stone_wall and building_present...etc'.

This would force the player to build them BEFORE you can even build the Imperial Palace. Kinda backwords...but it would work, and also delay the reforms a little more. Also, I've found that in many cities 'capable' of building the Imperial Palace, it's very hard to keep them happy.....I have a couple over 40,000, and they keep getting hit with plagues. I'm beginning to think there's something hardcoded about the highest level buildings like 'city plumbing' that needs to be there for plague to be prevented.

Good point, and the new factions, and switching the 'Free People' to the 'Free Greeks', is going to change everything anyway, so really the less time you spend on this map, and the more time on the new map, the better... I'm just a bit peeved because I got SLAMMED playing as Armenia trying to take one measly Free settlement. Marched in with a full stack, expecting to face 2 full stacks of Frees, got hit by 3 full stacks at once (one was hiding) and my army -- the pride of Armenia! -- was obliterated. Just wiped from existence.

I was afraid that you had artificially boosted the Free stats to make them tougher than 'regular' units, which I think is a bad idea.

if your playing hard battles or vh. enemy on hard gets +2 on their stats and moral. very hard they get +4. So there could be a reason why you think their overpowering .
