Default Pavise Xbow Vs Janissary Archers

Now correct me if I am wrong but I always thought cross bows were more powerful than bows while bows could shoot faster and further. This seems not the case. 5 separate tests have shown me that Janissary archers can defeat an equal number of Yeoman archers. Odd considering archery was England's big thing but whatever.

So I go to test Pavise cross bows from sicily versus the Janissary archers. The Janissaries are utterly decimated and the Pavise dudes suffer minimal to moderate at worst losses. Another thing is that the two have seemingly identical reload times. I havent looked at the files but just by observation this seems true. Archers will lazily put in a new arrow and wait a while before firing whereas the crossbowmen waste no time in loading.

Just pointing this out, I think this is a little noticed and subtle problem in the game.

I know it sucks but that is how CA has balanced missle units out. I personally wish there were more professional missle units. Xbows are the suxorz.

Did you have fire arrows on? That will cause a large increase in reload time with few benifits except morale loss.

A better comparison would be the JAs vs "regular" crossbows (probably merc crossbows for appropriate "professional" equality). Pavise crossbowmen should take far fewer casualties vs. other missile troops. That was the express purpose of the pavise, to protect the troops from counterfire while reloading.

OTOH, some mods have addressed the superhuman reload rate of crossbows in game and their ability to fire at high angles. Crossbow units from the original MTW could only fire slowly and in flat trajectories. That meant they were useless once driven behind your main battle line unless you were on a hill so the crossbows were above your line and could fire over it.

he is 100% right in real life archers have ability to work faster especially british used the longbow unitl 16 th century. jenissary troops lasted until 17th century where turks conquerd and take vassells over most of the middle east and northern africa

Some complained that archers are underpowered but watching a test like this (xbows vs. archers) i noticed that archers have a fire rate only 20-25% higher then xbows. So maybe increasing the fire rate would do archers some justice (or at least for proffesional archer units - longbowmen were expected to be able to shoot at least 10 aimed shots per minute, veterans could go up to 20/min; crossbowmen could shoot 3-4 per min by himself or 8 shots/min with 1-2 servants and an extra xbow)

Yea their shields really negate the damage from the JA's bows so yea... the JA's dont have bing shileds strapped on their backs.
