I have looked and looked, but cannot find anything definitive on how to change a factions name. I keep hearing about a expanded.txt file, but can't find it. Help would be nice. Btw, my game is patched to 1.2.

Watch the language!
1] Run the unpacker that came with 1.2 if you haven't already done so
2] Download Alpacas strings.bin converter to convert expanded.txt.strings.bin file in the data/text folder to an editable text file
3] Open this file up with notepad and find the {TURKS}Turks entry and change it to {TURKS}Selçuk Saltanat or whatever
ok, I am having a problem, when I convert it to a txt file, do I leave it as a txt file, and get rid of the bin file? Because No matter what I do, I still have the same exact names. If you could do an exact step by step, that would be great.
And you're using a mod switch or mod folder?
From what I understand, if you're using a mod folder no need for the strings.bin file, it will regenerate one.
If you're not, then you need to leave the old one there.

For some reason only known to the almighty, the converter has refused to work despite my best efforts of getting it to do what it was created to do. Major disappointment!
However, This does http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...do=file&id=993

Converter only works when you have an old version of python installed. Install this version by first uninstalling the other version and then please report back.![]()
Python 2.5.4 (32-bit) must be installed because most of the M2TW python scripts are based on it. If user doesn't uses these scripts then it's another matter.
