    Default Natural Disasters

Why do you think they occur?
Do you think it's because of natural reasons or does god have a hand in it? If so, do they occur for the purpose of punishment?

I'm not entirely sure about this, although I believe, to a large extent, that these occur naturally, regardless of whether people die or not or if the people who die are "sinful". I'm surprised how many people still believe that god is directly responsible for earthquakes, etc.

Everything has a reason. They are there to punish us if we have done great evil, or to keep our minds fixed on who's will we totally depend upon for existance.

    I see.
When Katrina happened, I knew some people who openly said how America was being punished by god for it's "unjustified war". I was wondering what sort of punishment it was because they were the poor who were suffering .

Anyway, ironic as it is, an earthquake hit northern Pakistan a few weeks later killing more than 100,000. The people that died were not the ones that saw Katrina as god's wrath but they were the ones that had been living in war-torn Kashmir. They were some of the poorest and most hard-working people in the world.

Someone said the quake hit "us" because "we're sinful". If we really are sinful, why did the poor peasants that make their living on the Himalayas get killed? It just doesn't add up.

Everything just leads to the conclusion that these natural disasters are random occurances that have nothing to do with anything divine.

Or maybe it is because people settled near a place where tectonic plates were shifting?

That claim that NATURAL disasters (which incidentally were happening long before humans ever walked the earth) have a purpose (other than perhapse pop. control) is baseless.

This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.

As far as I know natural disasters are necessary for the stability of the earth.

Natural disasters are caused by the dynamics of nature, and they have a scientifical explanation under the Laws of the Universe. This is the How. And yes, they are created by God and happen "under the hand of God", but that's the same case as everything related to onions, red hot chilli peppers, and yourself.

The Why is more complicated, though.

Wow, aren't these the people that show up at the funerals of soldiers? Truly disgusting.

"natural disasters" can be defined as the activities of the Earth's life. we are just one of the very tiny "creatures" on the Earth.

yes natural disasters are usually just exceptionally violent processes of a planets life, being small and fleshy inhabitants of this earth we are afraid of these movements within our mother, because they usually bring death to us.

when ancient man faced an earthquake or tornado it would be terrible difficult to believe the event was not in some way motivated by god

Natural disasters are almost entirely natural occurances, though man may contribute to them.

From what I've seen in your posts, you sound to be an atheist... (or by beliefs at least)
At times, natural disasters occur regardless of people's virtues/vices, & off course God is in charge of this all and behind this all. Everything he does has some logic into it, and so he makes it all go through the scientific processes. So, It's God obviously behind this all, and this matters to him. Disasters in themselves are an advantage to Earth, or how would Earth go through evolution & all... Every life has to come to an end, plus to maintain the constancy of the population & all, Natural disasters are necessary.

You would think that attributing natural disasters to the will of the gods would have died out hundreds, if not thousands of years ago, but apparently it hasn't...
