Default Here, There, And back that way.

It might happen to you, just maybe. This urge to play Total War, but mid-way through the game you wanna start over as someone else?

Well, so i said screw being huge with Milan and wanna start over as SCOTLAND!

So anyone know what they're like? I wanna play out this long horrible struggle against the british, and be a tiny piss-ant for a while. Just a lil teaser before our glorious new LTC release.

    I clearly understand your feelings.
(Off late, I even made it to the Timurid invasion! Wow, they really exist! I always thought they were a urban legend residing in these forums.)

Scotland is fun, but you have to restrain yourself.
After England is gone, so is the fun of the campaign. At least for me, it is no fun seeing Marseille as a scottish commerce center.

Yes, I can identify with this perfectly. When you see you are on a sure path to winning a campaign it looses it's appeal. So I don't at all finish all campaigns. Mostly the short ones.

The early game is more fun. It's as simple as that. Once you've established a strong homeland the game sort of loses it's appeal, at least for me. I'm currently playing a really passive campaign as the Spanish following the house rule of not attacking anyone during the first 50 turns or so. The Moors finally decided to attack me after our relations have gradually gone sour during the last 30 years. Milan got power hungry and started an unprovoked naval blockade of Zaragoza which prompted me to take their castle in Toulouse followed by me sacking Marseille and gifting the city to the Papacy, thereby seriously strengthening my alliance with them.

Now that the Moors have attacked I got the Papacy to declare a crusade against Cordoba which should see the city fall within a couple of years as soon as my raiding army from southern France is shipped over to the Iberian peninsula. Haven't had this much fun late in the game for some time!

Yea, you guys know what i'm talkin about. As soon as victory is around the corner you're like.. blah! Maybe if they made the game EVEN longer, like 2 turns a year. And made armies even more expensive to control. I dunno, but I've only finished one game, cause I wanted to see the Aztecs. Klink's garrison add-on makes it worthwhile, but those people show up AFTER I seige for some reason. You still win, so I don't know what to say.

I figure we should always play with the short campaign. you can always go further, but when you need to get 35, and you've played slow on purpose, eventually you're gonna have to go on a rampage. Another thing, what makes us get strong control early is the easy rebel states.

    NOTE FOR MODDERS!!

I think that the Rebel-held provinces at the begginging should be BEEFY AS HELL!! And with great units, and a grand Ambition. like Rebels should not spawn everywhere in your lands where you gotta go running after them every 5 minutes for 10 turns, but they attack with back-up on your besieging forces, 1000's of them. Anyone recall Europa Barbororum for RTW? Rebels should kick our asses, but for the AI they should be easier to take.

For example, Antwerp, and Bruges are sitting there for the taking. Why not make them a force to be reckoned with?

I've found some campaigns are sadistically hard. Like the Turks on VH/VH in LTC.
    - You don't have any money
    - Byzantium hates you
    - Egypt might like you if you do it right but still its hard to keep an eye on them.
    - Once you think the dust has cleared the mongols come.

But the best thing with these wery hard factions is that when you actually maintain order and control of your region, It's very rewarding and it doesn't make you feel "blah". It makes you continue that campaign.

Good point. I haven't tried Byzantium in LTC yet, that should provide a decent challenge with the Seljuks in the east and the Catholic factions in the north and west. I've tried the Turks but got bored fighting with horse archers.

God bless, I tried the turks on my second campaign and I had a heart attack when I saw what the Invasions were really made of. I too, had heard stories, but never seen it firsthand. My god I'll never be the turks again!!
