Default Vatican to Tap Into Sun's Power

Who woulda thunk it? The Catholic Church is using SCIENCE to help them run the Vatican's electricity. Even after the fact that most of the Vatican was paid for by the poor who payed for indulgences so they could not go to hell.

I think that's brilliant. Now all the pope has to do is say "thou must use renewable energy" and the entirety of the Southern US will have to stop burning fossil fuels

If I've helped you, rep me. I live for rep.

the evangelicals are ardently anti catholic bigots. There is nothing that would make them more unlikely to take up a green cause.

the 2nd poster said that if the Vatican makes Green energy a catholic issue thing then all of southern USA will stop with the fossil fuels.

The maps show that the Southern US states are primarily Baptists, and few catholics live there (besides the area around New Orleans it would seem)

Actually, you cannot pay for indulgences, as that would be simony.

I'm sick of people making such generalizations just because one or two heretical priests who are probably now burning in hell went around and said a lot of crap and screwed over a bunch of people.

It Just wasn't one or two priests who did this it was the POPE HIMSELF! Pope Leo X started it and this is what ultimatly lead to the Protestant Reformation.

Well, nobody ever said you can't have bad popes. Popes are only perfect when speaking ex Cathedra.

Like I said, paying for indulgences is simony, and is completely against what the Lord and the Virgin Mother have stated.

Heres another image for you, thought it was in line with this whole "south" discussion.

its too big to display as an [ img]

The Catholic Church is using SCIENCE to help them run the Vatican's electricity.
Also unlike the south in which you stereotype the Catholic Church is usually lately believing in science.

Yes, the Catholic Church likes science, it embraces it, it uses it. I find it a very silly assumption that Catholicism is anti-intellectual and anti-scientific.

When I'm normally faced with this argument, I just bring up this lovely link.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ers_in_science

Yes, it's Wikipedia, of course. Every bloody link on the internet leads to it, but the references are quite sound.

I also love to bring up Gregor Mendel, the "father" of genetics. He was a devout Augustinian Abbot (Catholic) who's famous studies in his pea garden paved the way for modern genetics. His studies were crucial for Darwin's work, giving evidence for the genetic mechanism that made evolution a sound theory.

Oh, and Pope John Paul II made it very clear that not only is Evolution plausible and practical, it is no threat to religion or Christianity. And our Current Pope is very interested in the scientific data regarding the repurcussions of global warming.

My friends, look for truth, not half-baked sterotypes.

Thank God there are people in the world that actually use knowledge rather than stereotypes. That stupid "the church hates science" thing stemmed from the Church's front against modernism, which wasn't even technology: it was democracy, cause some people wanted a democratic church. And if people are still refering to Galilleo, the Church legally forgave him in the 1970's. So yea, the Church likes science. That's why they have their own Vatican Observatory and labs. So get with the times.
