    Default Beta Testing:

I've really hesitated to get into this subject because I'm an easy-going guy and I don't like to stir up trouble, but for these upcoming changes and RS2 in general I'm going to require some better performance from people who joined this team strictly as beta testers....or, maybe we'll have to get some more.

The small elephant in this mod has been wrong for a LONG time, and only after one of the players pointed this out did I discover there was even anything wrong with it. This tells me that people aren't loading custom battles and checking these things as I would expect...and there's just too much for people like Tone, AE, myself, Squid to do to be expected to check ALL of these issues.

So, starting with RS2, I'm going to put a complete faction list in here, and I'm going to first take volunteers to play and test the hell out of a faction. If there are no volunteers, then I'm going to seek some more help doing this.

I am a frustrated perfectionist, because there isn't enough of me to do all these things, and I just hate stupid errors like archers standing in mid-air over an elephant!

Here is the complete list of factions that will be in RS2:

    Romans
    Macedon
    Egypt
    Pergamum
Free Barbarians ------DVK, this one will be finicky
    Scythia
    Sarmatia
    Parthia
    Armenia
    Seleucia
Independent City States ------DVK, this one will be finicky
    Sparta
    Carthage
    Cantabrians
    Arverni
    Belgae
    Boii Confederation
    Cimbri
    Pontus
    Dacia

If you choose a faction, I will expect a very good and thorough report on the following issues:

    1. Economy....is this faction 'playable'? Enough money to survive and have fun? Or no fun because it's too hard?

    2. Units and unit strengths....are you armies decent? Can you win battles with your warriors? Are they too strong? Too weak? Just right?

    3. Your opponents....are you overmatched? Do you find it impossible to expand? Is the AOR too restrictive? Just right? Could even be better?

    4. Changes you'd like to see for this faction?

Stuff like this, and maybe others can suggest some things I haven't thought of.

And last of all, would someone like to volunteer to moniter, take this over, make it work, so we get some good feedback as things go along. I am going to be buried up to my eyeballs in work as soon as that map and Tone's new units show up, so I would like someone to take this and run so I don't have to worry about it.

This is a great idea! Since I've started with a Bosporan campaign for every RS version so far, I'll take them. I have a good idea of how that faction plays.

Oh, and as for the elephant glitch, I haven't fought an elephant in weeks -- for some strange reason lately I've only been playing eastern factions, Bosporans, Getai, Pontus, Pergamum, Sarmatians, Seleucids -- I think I've decided that they're inherently more fun than the stodgy infantry-obsessed West. I'll take a glittering army of Pontus over a placid pack of Gauls any day.

Which is one reason I'm excited to see the Scythians added to the game. I love their Greek/Sarmatian unit mix and their position right on the edge of the 'civilized' world. It's going to be a great faction to play.

And also why, if I had my druthers (whatever a druther is), Rhodes would be the initial Greek faction, not Sparta. But I know, Sparta has the fanbase and all, so I bow before its might... until my Scythian raiders burn it to the ground!

ARMENIAA!! I will do at least Armenia, maybe more. I got a freind with RTW and I might be able to convince him to help. But I have beta tested before, and I worked out a 'system' on how to run things

Could you and Oli work it out then, and take charge of this. We really could do a better job, and I just think better organization is the answer... not my strong point, unfortunately...in case no one noticed. Ha! LOL

Hmmm.... Since Hader took Armenia... I am gonna kill myself for saying this... I'll take Rome

    By the way...

    Cantibrians?
No, Cantabrians, Cantabrians, Cantabrians. Not Cantiberians, Cantibrians, it is CANTABRIANS. Sorry, I had to let loose some steam.

I wouldn't recommend playing on VH/VH because of the problems that have been discussed with getting inappropriate bonuses (may actually make the campaign easier). At hardest should play on H/VH.

I agree. H\VH is fine. The unit size doesn't matter....it's playing VH on strat that screws things up.

H\VH means hard strat campaign and very hard battles. My comp lags as well. Large is fine.

Rory, maybe try Iberia - they're similar enough to know roughly what you're doing. Quite a challenging start though.
