    Icon5 Video card upgrade

    Hey

    I've got a GeForce 7300GS, and I want to find a suitable upgrade, but I don't want to pay lots, somewhere in the region of £80 - £100 ($150 - $200).
    Any help?

If you stretch yourself to GTS you will be much better off.

Don't. You're already good enough for most games, and you probably don't play above 1600x1200 resolution.

Wait until ATi or nVidia offer low-end parts to their current X2xxx and GF8xxx series, or get a 8800 GTS.

In the future, buy between mainstream and high end (usually stripped high end, sometimes maxed out mainstream). Or buy ultra low end (previous generation) cheaply ($50 or less).

Those two ways of buying give you the best points of performance for your money.

8800 GTS: ($260 after rebates, otherwise you won't really notice the difference with your current 7300. This price will drop to $200 in 6 to 12 months, depending on what ATi does.)

    or wait for:
    nVidia GF8300
    ATi X2300

You have a PCI express port, right? And make sure that you power supply is good enough:

A minimum recommended 550W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 26A).

Depends on the rest of your specs. Post those and then people can say what you should get.
