Maybe downloaded the wrong install, I know I did..
But you seem to have 64-bit and downloaded it so maybe it's some other issue.

So what exactly happens when you try to install it? Have you set it to boot from CD in the BIOS? Does anything at all appear on the screen - Ubunto Logo or anything else - before it goes blank?
I might try to install it myself, I have a similar setup as yours: Core 2 Duo 6420, and the 8600. Maybe try turning off your overclocking before you install?
i get the start or install ubuntu bit on 6.06, personally I thiink its the 8 series GPUs or the mobo because it worked with my p5b p965/ 7800gtx fine

Maybe you don't have the necessary graphics driver?
When I first installed Linux (back in the days) from CD-ROM on my brand new Intel Pentium MMX with state-of-the art Stealth II graphics card with 3D acceleration and 4MB VRAM (Yes, it was a Looooong time ago) I first had to download graphics drivers before I could start a graphical shell.
Maybe you could try installing Linux with just a command line shell? (that's still possible, isn't it?)
i cant; you need some kind of basic one to launch the console but it just goes black..
says uncompressing linux....
boothing the kernal.
then goes black

Haha, just tried this myself. Installed Ubuntu on the similar system to yours.
Try this:
Sit and wait for four minutes. The CD is loading.Takes a little bit, but it boots up after a while.
nah it boots in seconds it crashes as soon as you try and load the live cd; i managed to get round it - i have to force set vga every time - now i cant install it because my partition is a matrix raided one in the moddle of a disk![]()

Alright so you put in the CD and reboot and boot up on the CD. Then it says "uncompressing linux..." and goes black? If you are using a CD-RW try using a CD-R. Also turn off any overclocking as Zuwxiv said, Ubuntu can be very unstable with an overclock in my experience. Any further details on your problem would help.
EDIT: Oh missed that last post... Anyways if you are using RAID, I don't know what to say. I've never used it before and I heard Linux support for it is a bit spotty. Try posting on ubuntuforums.org
