Default How often do towns come out to meet you once under siege?

I've besieged numerous towns so far, and not one has actually come out to meet me. They all end up surrendering after the specified number of days.

I'm happy with this, as I'm not losing any troops obviously. But is this a bug? Is it a house rule that I should assault a city and not just wait it out or anything? Or is this perfectly fine?

There isn't any rule that commits you to an assault, only if your timetable or some other issue (another relief army) forces an early capture. Are you using the garrison script? The AI is more likely to sortie during a siege if it can muster a large enough army to challenge your force.

thats strange... every time i siege a town, the enemy army always comes out on the last turn before surrender.

It depends on the AI army and the players army.

Personally when I siege, I SIEGE! The Game has mechanical flaws, Personally when I lay siege I attack after a certain amount of Time, who wants them to attack you? Its better to STORM the Walls with your men like in REAL LIFE, instead of a fake ingame surrender. lol

Really though you must be playing without the script, if the AI is less than yours in SPQR or RTW it will not attack you.

I suggest playing with the script for more challenge, thats why its their.

I WAS playing with the script, but I've been forgetting to enable it each time lately. No wonder the years were flying by!

    Thanks guys

Uh oh, you had better either start the campaign over, or go back to a save before you forgot the script. It is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to have the script running either the WHOLE time, or NOT AT ALL. Trust me, I've gone through it. I have lost a very long campaign because I was stupid and didnt keep a ton of backup savegames. Now I have 3 savegames for each year, called for example:

    139
    139b
    139c

When it first becomes 139 BC, I save the game three times, and then next time I save, I save over 139b, and the time after that, 139c, then the time after that, 139b again, so I always have a very recent save that I can't accidentally ruin, and I have saves all throughout my campaign so if I forget the script I can go back and not lose everything. I have backed up 8 years once in this campaign, but it was worth it, because otherwise I would mess up my entire campaign and have to go back... 80 years to the beginning lol.

I had problems with remembering to run the script too, but I have found a simple (silly?) solution.
I simply call my savegames "activate_script1", "activate_script2", and so on, so when I load them back I actually read "activate_script" and remember to do it!
It sounds ridiculous I know but it works!

Hard to say it varies, sometimes you can be ok and sometimes it causes problems. Its the 4tpy script that is causing the problems. The garrison script just monitors the cities.

Once after I had forgotten about the script and then reactivated it I had all of the historical events happen in one year! Needless to say I decided to revert back to an older save.

When I first looked at SPQR I thought the Advisor was popping up automatically when I loaded my campaign, so I could never forget to click 'show me'.

I then looked at a few other mods, and came back to SPQR to play a long game, this time around it seems I have to remember to hit esc, click ? then 'show me'.

Did I dream about automatic advisor pop up at each campaign load up? Or perhaps mix up my recollection of the different mods?

Attached is my Julii faction symbol. This shows in loading screens, ONLY when you are LOADING a campaign, not when you are going to or from a battle. So it is only shown right when you need it.

Instead of the faction symbol, it is a red circle with a big yellow word "SCRIPT" in it. Put the tga in this folder:
