    Default Spartan Glory, an AAR

This is my first AAR, and until i get an answer to my other topic the first post will lack a picture but it's good to get an intro to your campaign, but will add one at a later time.

    - Tis a warriors life here in the city. Train all day every day for on purpose; Warfare. From the time we are born we are raised to be soldiers, otherwise we should never have been born at all. We are the finest force in Greece, we are the supreme warriors, we are SPARTANS! My life has been on that many have only dreamed off; to serve in many campaigns for the glory of our state, to be the first chosen as the second in command to the king on the field of battle, to be one of the finest to walk the earth, for i am Captain Helios of the Hippeis bodyguard. And this is our kingdom and our rise to glory!

Continuation of AAR is coming up; pics may not be perfect but they are pics so here we go.

    - Our state contains two kings but one is more dominant then the other one as our current king is. He is strong, and able to sway the council and even the ephors to do his bidding. One of the greatest kings we have known; our king Anaxandridas! I myself have had the honor of serving under him my first time in a war. My king sent an envoy to Athens to see if he could persuade them into a truce for the betterment of the state.

The Athenians accepted our offers for an alliance, under conditions that part of Greece and the northern lands would be theres, and the Peleponnesous and parts of the north would be ours. Though personally i would rather just march on Athens and take all of Greece for ourselves; However having a state such as them as an ally narrows down the number of enemies we immediatly have. Though we gained an alliance with, Anaxandridas ordered that we were going to go to battle with our oldest rivals, the Argives. I had faced them in the field before, though they are great warriors they are not Spartans. When the order was given, we formed up to march out of the city and join the Kings son Leonidas in the field to attack the city. Even the king Himself joined our force and marched with us to the gates of Argos.

The Argives outnumbered us, and there king was not going to give up his city without a hard fight. However like all cowards who have walls they did not come onto the field to face us, they hide behind there walls waiting for us to make an assault upon them. Though feeling cheated of a battle Anaxandridas told us, " Why hang your heads low men. Though the Argives hide behind there walls like cowards thinking we will not fight today; wheter they wish to fight or not there will be battle!"

With these words we formed back up into our lines and were ready for the conflict looming ahead. Our swords were sharpened, our spears keen, and we were ready for victory or death. Though we lacked skills in siegecraft our Doriakai Periokoi Hoplitai had skill enough to make machines to break us a path into the city.

Well it's been a while and now for the finally of the battle started in the last post: The Fall of Argos

    - The gates were breached by our ram and the king ordered us through the gap. But like any good commander he did not order all of us through, for he sent Leonidas with the greater majority of our Spartiates, and Hoplitai to the other ram which was working on making a breach in the wall. While Anaxandridas had his bodyguard of 57 of the Hippeis and I had my command of 80 Hippeis, we were faced off by the Argive king with over 500 of his men including his finest hoplites. This was the kind of fight we had hopped for as there lines came crashing inot our wall of shields and spears.

We continued to fight. Though we were pelted by javelin and arrow, they could not hold against our phalanx line. Aisklepios, seeing that we were driving his men back ordered some of his men to come around and flank us, yet it was all for naught, for Leonidas and the rest of our Spartiates breached the wall and summarily crused the flanking force and joined us on the front. With many of his men routing Aiklepios the king of Argos, charged in with his cavalry in an attaempt to drive us back and reinvigorate his men to victory. However he rode out in front of his bodyguard right into me and my men. Had he been born of Sparta he would have been a King equal to Anaxandridas; he fought well striking dwon several of the Hippeis, but shortly after my spear struck his sword arm, two more spears pierced his chest and he fell from his horse cold and lifeless. A death fitting only a warrior.

Seeing there king had fallen what remained of the Arigves engaged against us fled back to the courtyard. Though Argos had few men left they still had a strong force of there Hoplitai in the courtyard and they were fresh. Though we were tired and had taken casualties our resolve was still strong, we were going to take the city no matter what. So Anaxandridas led the charge as we smashed inot the second force of argives ranged against us.

We pushed foward, and so did they. They fought with courage, whilwe fought like soldiers. There seemed to be no end in sight between us and them. Then a unit of Doriakai Periokoi Hoplitai turned there flank and attacked from the rear. Pressed between our shields in front and back the Argives continued to fight. They refused to surrender and fought till the last man, and then victory was ours.

Though we had achieved victory it had a cost, 147 of our men lie dead amongst the Argive fallen. Though unlike many other

However unlike many other leaders who would punish the people of the state for the death of so many warriors, Anaxandridas commended them on how well they fought. He gave funeral rites to all of Argoses warriors and buried Aisklepios like a king should be. He was also honored amongst our men. The people even took to us well; and with the Argives added to our force we shall be nearly unstopable.

Well i have been having some trouble with imageshack, but what pics i have can allow me to expand on the AAR so here it goes.

-It has not been long since our victory over the Argives, and even now we miss the rage of battle from that day. Anaxandridas was recalled to Sparta earlier today, leaving command of the army in the hands of his eldest son Leonidas. He proved his valor in battle with the Argives slaying many of them that day. Like his father before him i was again appointed his subordinate in the army. Though some of our men have their doubts about his leadership skills, in my eyes he has nothing to prove. We were also graced to hear that Leonidas's younger brothers, Kleombrotos and Doreios, came of age not long ago.

We were even graced by more tidings of the state from Anaxandridas, when his daughter, Iphithea was married to a strong warrior (well from his own country) Anaxandros. Anaxandros may have been accepted into our kings house but he has yet to prove himself a strong and capable soldier in our eyes.

Though we had recieved excellent tidings from home, we still needed an enemy with which to do battle with. Fortunatly the Gods gave us one. Not long after we had recieved reinforcments from Sparta, we learned that the city of Ellis was haboring run away helots and helping them plan an uprising to free the others. This was seen as an act of war and we were given the order to march on Ellis. This time our king would not lead us into battle; the leadership of this one was to be given to Leonidas with his younger brother Kleombrotos. When we reached Ellis their people retreated behind there walls and we besieged them.

Though while we were away keeping supplies from entering the city we recieved news from Sparta. Anaxandridas with backing of the council sent an emmissary to the people of Taras in order to gain allies in the west and a new trade route that could bring in much needed supplies. With some well worked negotiation our people forged an alliance with the people of Taras.

Now the Elliens had no on to turn too. With us outside the city, the path east blocked by our armies, and no where to go in the west, Ellis would be ours for the taking.

Sounds like you will soon be in control of the entire Peloponnesos!

hey, can you modders lower AI agression? I've near quit my parsa AAR because, the AI factions attack me when I am next to their land no matter what,(not to mention Im having a hard time in fraps for my AAR)

Actually, that's quite hard to accomplish. When you have a large empire, other factions tend to do that (happens in vanilla RTW too).
So all you can do is counter attack and defeat them, making your empire even larger. Though if the enemy in question has alot of money (like lydia an babylon) - it's hard to do that.
