Lets talk Late Era tactics

Hey All,

In my current game as Spain I am easily the strongest Faction. I have all of Spain, 1/2 of France, North Africa and Jeruselum and Acre. Portugal has been my Vassal for 200 years now and own two provinces within my empire. Ok enough history.

What I would like to discuss is Late Era Unit tactics and formations. I am about to get Muskateers so I really want to fight with Terico Pikeman, Cavalry and Musketeers. I hardly ever get to the late ages due to boredom, so I could be called newbish with these units. My tried and true tactics still work fine, but I want to try out any ideas I get here.

So, I'd like to know what formations, compostions and tactics you'd use with only Musketeers, Cavalry and Pikeman. oh, artillery is a given.

You can add any units you like, but nothing that is totally outclassed by the Late Era Units. (no cannon fodder)

Hey there Jopo, sorry it's been so long since someone hit you up.

Well, for me the earlier eras are more fun than the late. It has nothing to do with the units because the units are ALOT of fun. Jopo, you picked a good spot, Spain is the first one I chose. You know it's powerful, their units are off the chain, and their on a freaking penninsula, AWESOME. So, you've conquered much of the known world, however, I don't see that you've conquered all the far far West? North, Central, and South America await your Spainiards and Conquistadores. Those aztecs will be fun, for me they were the most fun.

Heres what you do Jopo. First, get tons, I mean tons of those good Gunners. A few infantrymen, yes, and maybe calvary but I'd say skip them. Make sure you bring some RIBALTS. Trust me. Now the jungles can be a.. well, a leafy place, so make sure you tone ur graphics down a tad, just in case. Send no less than 2 fleets, 3 would be optimum if u could afford it, and 4 would be overdoing it. Those aztecs will send men, lots of them, make sure for the first few waves you're on the defensive. Take time, and put thought into placing your men in a defensive posture, perhaps on a hill. Lets those doomed little bastards run at you and goooooood lord man they start a droppin. My desk was shaking, guns blaring, men dying, ooo and then the ribaults kicked in. ...Jopo.. there, .. there was noone left JOOPO!! They all lay slain upon the battlefield, thousands.

Do this Jopo, do this and you shall have become a great warrior.

One tip about pikemen:

If the tercio is well upgraded he is extremely strong in offense. If you remove guard mode and attack, the enemy wil be obliterated.

I was doing a siege and i had my much loved aventuros with my. The manage to kill over 600 men in the town square, while losing only about 20 of 150.
