    Default Ages: Total War

Ages: Total War (Temporary name, may need a super power brain trust to get a better one )

I am proposing possibly the largest M2TW project. Not because we'll have a massive map or something like a space age style game. But because it will span from 337 AD, the year Constantinople was named Constantinople, to 1453. The year The Ottoman Empire took Constantinople and renamed it Istanbul. Our mod will run 3 different campaigns, early, dark, and another medieval campaign. The eary campaign, or Roman campaign, starts at 337 AD. I have not yet decided when it will end but I feel that 600 AD seems like a good time. The second campaign would be the Dark Age campaign. Starting the year the Early Campaign ends it would last till the year the original M2TW campaign. Then the Medieval Campaign would last to 1453.

    EARLY CAMPAIGN

This will be the base for the Early Campaign region map.

Here is my first shot at a faction list:
    The Western Roman Empire
    The Eastern Roman Empire
    The Vandals
    The Lombards
    The Saxons
    The Franks

    Hordes:
    The Huns

The goal of the Early Campaign is to bring some of the feel of Rome: Total War to M2TW, but to also add our own little twists to gameplay.
    DARK AGE CAMPAIGN

    Faction List:
    Ostrogoths
    Visigoths
    Franks
    Bergundy
    Saxons
    The Eastern Roman Empire
    The Republic of Novgorod

    Hordes:
    The Saracen Empire
    The Vikings

The goal of the Dark Age Campaign is to bring the Dark Ages to the Total War series. Since this era has not been covered by CA I feel we will have the most trouble with creating this part of the mod.
    MEDIEVAL CAMPAIGN
The main goal of the Medieval Campaign is to add a couple new factions and to balance the gameplay with work on the AI and unit rosters. The Medieval Campaign will not be focused on as much as the other 2 eras, but we feel that it deserves a revamping itself.

This is just a rough draft and more will be added later as my research continues.

    RECRUITMENT
Ages: Total War will need a massive amount of work. 2d artists, 3d artists, a mapper, people to do script and of course researchers.

    Thanks,
    Vorge

Constantinople wasn't named so in 337... It was named "Nova Roma" (New Rome).

To try to answer your questions:
    1. Not that I know of.
    2. I think I read somewhere that there is a limit, though I can't give details
    3. Yes... A way. You can have a shadow faction (with no territories, armies or agents), and on a certain event delete the old faction and put the new one over it, taking all its territories, agents and armies.
    4. Yes.
    5. Yes, it shouldn't be really hard.

These being said, I know next to nothing about M2TW scripting so I can't help you.

If you need me for 2D work, just call (PM).

Alright. Thanks SirPaladin. In 313 Constantine renamed Byzantium to Nova Roma. Then in 337 Constantine died and the city was renamed Constantinople "The City of Constantine" Also. Can you script it so cities are re-named at certain dates?

    Oh. My error.

But still. I doubt it was named suddenly as Constantinople. From what I've read, people would call it Constantinople, that being its nickname.

I don't think cities can be renamed.

Oh right. I agree that it didn't just become Constantinople. It was a date I had found in a couple places and I decided to go with it. Second. No re-naming cities? Crap. Hrmm... maybe it should be a provincial campaign (spelling?) Just would be tons of fun if it was one fluid campaign. Also, if we use these hidden factions can we make it so they don't appear if they are supposed to replace the players faction?

u might wanna PM lusted, he seems to know M2TWs limits
somehow i doubt this is within those limits, if you pull it off, fair play
but this will take a helluva lot of work

Actually thats a good idea. I feel that with the use of a provincial campaign we can encompass a lot more than the original idea of 1 fluid campaign. But thanks for your imput.

You can rename cities, in text files and in-game.

Anyway, Looks like a good idea and I hope to see it completed!

I have temporarily decided to put Ages: Total War on hold. I've decided to go and learn what I'm doing with modding first. I want to either have mastered skinning/modeling or to have advanced in it pretty far. Do not fear. Ages: Total War is not gonna die. It is going to be revived once I have reached a further knowledge of the modding world. Much thanks to Disgruntled Goat for talking some sense into me

Skinning is easy. Just learn your Photoshop/Gimp tools and practice a bit.

But for your mod idea, try to work with mesh parts, so that you build models more suitable for the units you want.

    Good luck.

According my history Book (37. edition 2004) "The Kalifat of Fatimides" is only between 909 and 972 in north afrika and from 969 till 1171 in Egypt A.D.

in the 8th, 9th and 10 th. where existing in the territory between Fes and Kairo follofing factions from west to east:
IDRISIDEN of Fes (808-930) --> Fatimiden --> Ziriden of Ifrijika (972-1167) --> Almohaden --> Almoraviden

ROSTAMIDEN of Tahert (808-930) --> Fatimiden --> Ziriden of Ifrijika (972-1167) --> Almohaden --> Almoraviden

    AGHLABIDEN of Kairuan(801-909) --> Fatimiden --> Almohaden --> Almoraviden
    T
    ULUNIDEN of kairo (868-905) --> Ichsidien (935-969) --> Fatimide --> Ajjubiden (1171 - 1250) (Salahad-din )

    Icon1 Re: Ages: Total War

    500 to 800

Puh, nearly impossible to play , there are so many changes in europe, middle east and africa.

    So let's start:

In North Afrika you have Vandals ( 429 - 534) defeated by Belisar . Justinian will reconquer till 565 Italy and all island around , territory between Aquileia and Ragusa, the Baleares.
The rest of spain is hold by suebi (409 - 575) which are conquered by the Visigoth swich are defeated by the Arabians in 711 !!!! In north of Spain you have Bask.

    In France:
    Empire of Burgundy443-534)
Empire of Tolosa by Visigoths (419-507)
    ......
    Charlemagne (768-814)

    In Italy:
    Empire of Ostrogoths (493-526)
War agianst Goths by Justinian ( 535-553)
Empire of Langobards (568-774) conquerred by Charlemagne and hold by Carolingians till 887. Political intrusion by Arabes in south italy, invasion of hungarian in the plain of the river Po.

Dispersion of the Arabes till 750:
    632 Mohammed dies
632-634 Kalif ABU Bekr --> Persia and Syria
634-644 Kalif Omar : Conquest of Syria and Palästina ( Damaskus 635 and Jerusalem 638), Persia (Ktesiphons 636) and Egypt (Alexandria 642)
644-656 Kalif Othman (Omaijade) --> Libya , formation of a fleet against the byzantines
656-661 Kalif Ali (Cousin of Mohammed and husband of his daughter Fatime)
Civil War against the wife of Mohammed

    Dynasty of Omaijades 661- 750:
    Conquest:
    East: Kabul, Buchara and Samarkand.
    705-715 Walid I.
    Transaoxania, Indus territory and Spain
    711 Jeres de la Frontera
    712 Toledo
    718 unsuccessful Siege of Constantinople
    721 Toulouse
732 Abd Ar-Rahman defeated at Tour and Poitiers Karl Martell
750 Meriwan II killed in the battle at Zab, all Omaijades will be killed except one: Abd Ar-Rahman who founds the Emirate of Cordoba --- 929 Kalifat of Cordoba

OK so good so far :

So Dark age is the early middle age.

Why do you makemake Goths and Ostrogoths ???

It shoud be Ostrogoths and Visigoths. Or you think seperation come between this nation only in a half ??? The names are given by historians and according the geographical postion after migration and after final settling down. So in 4th the Ostrogoths settled down much more west (where today is Hungary) than visigote who first settled down near blacksee in the territory where today Bulgaria is located. But to make the best distinction for this 2 tribes we should name then Visigoths and Ostrogoths.

In the 4th and 5th century we have a lot of hordes:
    The Jutes
    The Angles
    The Saxons
    The Franks
    The Goths
    The Suebi
    The Wandals
    The Alamanni
    The Burgunds
    The Langobards

in 486 A.D. "german" empires are:
    Empire of Franks
    Empire of Burgunds
    Empire uf Suebi
    Empire of Visigoths
    Empire of Ostrogoths
    Empire of Gepids
    Empire of Odowaker
    Empire of Vandals
Apart of this we have territories of Saxons, Alamannes, Thüringer, LAngobards and the Slavs

    in 528 A.D. :
    Empire of Franks
    Empire of Burgunds

    Empire of Visigoths
    Empire of Ostrogoths
    Empire of Gepids

    Empire of Vandals

So far 500 to 800 is very difficult to make it playable

    My Proposal for 500-800
    Empire of Franks
    Empire of Burgunds

    Empire of Visigoths
    Empire of Ostrogoths
    Empire of Gepids

    Empire of Vandals

from starting Arabic invasion ( impact factor 2x timurids vanilla mtw2 )

East Roman Empire, giving "Contra" the Arabes.

Vikings and Normans is all after 800 !!!!!!!!!!!!

    England and Ireland:
at 450 Jutes, Angles and Saxons landed
the britons were displaced to Wales (king Arthur ) Cornwall, Scotland and France (bretagne)
the invaders found 7 new territories:
    Kent: Jutes
    Northumbria, Mercia, East Anglia: Angles
    Essex, Sussex, Wessex: Saxons

WHAT IS GOING ON IN IRELAND, i don't know ???

    Skandinavia ???? Russia ??? Rest of Slavs ???? 500 -800 ????

    Selcuks is after 1000 A.D.
