Sounds like you might have had another mod? Sometimes leftovers as left that can cause Crashes. Mainly CTDs of that nature in loading screens is something wrong with the files, and since SPQR is bug free in that area it much be leftovers?

But I have never spoke with anyone that played with Alexander installed. So I dont know what they changed in the RTW files to play the addon. It could act like another patch and therefore cause Previous version mods to Crash.

Maybe you should remove everything and just install RTW then the patches and then SPQR and see what happens. Alexander may be conflicting with SPQR as its made for 1.5 patched RTW. I know it will work with BI not IN BI but work with the RTW section with BI installed. Not sure about alexander.
