I finally downloaded the trial, and it has been updating for 8 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good god dont waste your time on this peice of junk game. first off no one even plays it anymore but a handful of people. 2nd, while it might be the most open ended least item spamming mmorpg yet, it does suffer from lack of direction and content. ive returned and played it numerous times since launch, but with no real groups playing anymore its just another dead mod. seriously is there a mmorpg that contains anything beyond item whoring?

After I first got it a couple years ago, it was just about the only game I was seen playing. Aside from the monthly fee you had to pay in order to play it, it was a fairly enjoyable MMORPG that set itself apart from the hugely popular WoW.

Right around the time I stopped, the game had automatically downloaded an update, and that update changed the entire feel of the game by changing the whole targeting system, completely rendering a familiar game unplayable from my viewpoint. Since that time, which has been close to a year now, I haven't even tried re-installing the game.

You sure about that? I'm told EVE Online isn't half bad, though I've never played it myself (SWG was my one and only MMO, heh)

But to reiterate what has been said, do not play SWG. The game has been butchered by an 'update' that turned it into a generic WoW clone. It has lost the bulk of its playerbase, its ingame economy is non-existent, and it is covered with many low res textures hidden by cpu hogging shaders...

If you ever do get into it, you have a choice of about 8 different professions you can be part of and each has their own benefits. There are 90 skill levels you need to reach to be called a true expert, with each skill level requiring ever-increasing amounts of points to reach, and depending on your profession, you acquire new attributes and abilities about 5-7 skill levels. Side quests are your friend, but only attempt those within your range of abilities. In addition to that, many weapons and armor are restricted to your particular profession, skill level, and whichever species you choose to play as. The weapons inflict damage to opponents corresponding to the skill level it takes to acquire and use them; higher level opponents should be approached with caution with weapons that inflict low amounts of damage. You should only try facing opponents that are closer to your own skill level, because if you're a Level 5 and try facing a player who is Level 21, they'll most likely, unless you're very lucky, mop the floor with you without breaking a sweat. Know your limitations and exploit those you spot in your opponents.

Just to tell you how far along I was when the update screwed up the game and stopped playing, I was a Level 43 Commando.

i used to have it in early 2005, and it was AN AMAZINGGG GAME

there were loads of people, economy, items, quest, guilds, and then I looked up the update, (new game encancments/NGE)

ITS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME.......and i still have 94 hours of updating to go before i can play the demo

what are the space battles like though ? are they keyboard oriented like Xwing VS Tie Fighter or are they point and click affairs like Eve'ish ? ive always been curious about that one.

*sigh* brings back memories... I loved the game when i was still playing it. But at the time my PC was so crappy i couln't even visit the populated zones because my computer would lag to pieces. And the monthly payment was hurting my piggybank.

But damn, it was fun while it lasted! But people started leaving the game years ago after i quit, so it doesn't surprise me that the population is close to non-existant.

I stumbled across one of these sites by accident a while ago but have never found it again (I'll admit I haven't tried that hard). Does it look like they'll be able to make a go of it? I would of thought getting a critical mass of players will be difficult.

Pre NGE it was actually a good game, even though I didn't put enough time into it to be any good. The european servers were friendly and quite close knit. I think while the devs killed the beast there was a significant minority of gamers/journalists who were desperate for it to fail - I think it suffered with the disappointment with the new films too. The discussion boards were full of whining right from the start

Ohhh the memories..... I've acutally considered Installing it again, to see if my old friends are still there.

I had good memories, and the first time you do things: see the sun set on Tatooine, Watch the thousands of herds of Bols and other animals on Dantooine, got to insane parties, getting your character spiced up and drunk, roleplaying a Ex-Jedi Mandolorian Mercenary , a Inquisitor for the empire, a Mandolorian Bounty hunter...


Then the NGE happened, the game, my friends it was as if a Thousand mouthes cried out in pain. I lost almost everything post NGE. All is dust; I guess

This game BLOWS. It used to be great before they made expansion-patchs that completely changed the entire concept of the game.

Its sad that they decided to turn it into a ******, and poorly made, wow clone. My server used to be extremely populated and due to everyone quiting its completely dead.

No, do not play this trash garbage game. Everything with the Lucas logo on it lately has had the taint of **** on it and this is DEFINITELY one of the products that does.
