    Default Money

    Or lack thereof,

I'm playing a campaign as the English and so far I've managed to take all of southern England but with the price of upgrading my settlements being so high it nearly breaks my bank everytime I build a road or farm. right now I'm only bringing in around 500 florins per turn, I have a mine in London, a few roads and some land clearences. I'm also paying for an army at about 2/3 strength that is curently laying seige to York.

Is there anyway to increase my income without disbanding my whole army?

It's intended to be slow at the beginning. Remember you have 900 turns. Just save up and invest in income buildings.

That said, economy and challenge is a focus for the next update. Don't expect the starting years to get much easier.

it would be great if some1 made a little addon to the game so that people like me who dont got the time to play that much could get a chance to play if some1 would make an eco patch that removed the insane build times or just turend the money up a bit so that u dont gotta use too many hours playin an offcourse cut the build times

Well if your playing for fun not for difficulty, then why don't you just cheat in a 1,000 dollars for every settlement you own, every turn?

ie you got 4 then you get 4,000 if you have 9 you get 9,000. Still difficult but your able to get more units or building each turn so you don't have to wait a bunch to buy some roads.

Personally I always cheat in 3000 dollars and use the process_cq when buying some roads. In the grand scheme it doesn't change that much and you can finally move your armies around

Icon9 Got some money probs of me own...

    WaZaaa!!!

Been doing quite well with the Abbasid Caliphate in the earlier stages of the campaign but now I'm struggling financially with around 300 florins loss each turn running from around 1100 AD...

At the mo, my empire's controlling around 8 regions total with each settlement earning from approx. 30 to 500 florins but for some reason my economy's on recession big time -- got only -4000 florins (i.e. I'm on debt!!! )

Looking at me financial statement, it seems that my army upkeep's throttling my economy with approx. 5000 florins expenses although I haven't any full army anywhere and my most advanced unit excluding the generals would probably be the Turkoman Horse Archers and I've employed 2 merchants and built a gold mine and many land clearances and roads etc....

Any advice? My AI saving/spending setting's more on the saving side and hardly any settlement's building something...

btw just wondering what would be the motive behind setting the looting and exterminating financial gains so low/zero coz it reduces the incentive to capture settlements?:hmmm:

    Hey AMMsterz,

First of all, I believe the financial gains from looting/exterminating are based on population, so you don't get significant gains unless it's a larger city, which makes sense. The poor peasants in towns don't have much money you can steal

As for your economic problems with the Abbassids, I can offer a few tips. I am also playing them, and I'm quite enjoying them too. I'm 100 turns in, and also have 8 territories, so were are almost in the same boat

First, the basic stuff: You said you had a large army upkeep. Make sure your settlements have only free upkeep militia in them, that normally is the #1 case of missing upkeep costs.

With the new govener traits, having a general in cities is paramount! For example, i have one 40-something general that is adding 1000 florins -alone- in profit, just for being such a good administrator. However, as mentioned in other threads, goveners tend to, well.. suck, when the start out (because they're learning, and a little slow on the uptake !) However, this is where castles come in. Have your castles be your "govener training" centers. See, castles don't make a ton of money, so you aren't losing a ton of money by having "Prince William the Dumbass" in them. The also have a stable population base, good order, and don't require alot of population to upgrade, so all the negative traits from the "Bad Govener and Inexperienced Govener" are negated in castles! As soon as your general gets the "Neophyte Govener" trait, send him off to a city.

Also, watch corruption. Goveners also tend to completely get rid of all corruption monetary losses. I have a govener in each settlement, and things couldn't be running smoother. I love the guys. Also, if you tend to be running low on family members, just recruit a few generals from your cities/castles. Or expand a bit slower. I aim at claiming 5 territories per 100 turns (But I normally do 6 or 7. I can't help myself!). That way, everything is very stable before I continue expanding.

Finally, you should build. Quite a bit. Unfortunatly, a city isn't going to grow economically without more buildings. Your priorities should normally go: roads, then farms, then markets. How do you get the money? Well, I budget. At the beggining of each turn, I look at my financial reports. I make sure I have 1000 florins in profit for each settlement I own. If you do that, you keep building at a constant rate. Every bit of cash you have over 1000 per settlement can go to agents, or your army.

I hope that helps, man! Best of luck! (P.S. Expand to the coast of the Middle East ASAP. That is where the money is )

Not only am I able to lessen the corruption from inexperienced governors but I now have active armies who can attack as I will!!! Finally!!!

    Cheerz!!!

Awesome man! I'm glad I could help, especially a fellow... Abbassid Sultan

I have a few more tips for you, to help get some income!

    1) Merchants. Make sure each of your cities has at least a grain exchange. Then you can hire more merchants! Along the coast Antioc/Damietta are some silver mines. Those are prime areas for getting quite a bit of merchant cash, and you don't need to travel too far away! Also, the cotton and spices are pretty good, if you have some merchants trained up. Oh! And the gold deposit in.. Irak-something. (I'm horrible with names). The one you built a mine in. You can part a merchant there too. Gold mines are... gold.

    2) Make some allies, and then bleed them dry. Bleed them, I say! Every faction hates, despises, abhores, etc, the Rebels (or Independents, in the case of this mod). So, every time a rebel pops up, or you take a rebel settlement, you are looking at cash. Go to every ally (or even sometimes just factions you have good relations with) with a diplomat, and "Offer to attack faction: Independents" for "1000 florins". 99% of the time, it will work. Sometimes, however, they'll counter with 700-800 florins instead. You can just take that. Oh, and sometimes, if they are low on money, you can ask for a tribute, of say "500 over 2 turns" or "200 over 5 turns" as long as it adds up to 1000, your set. I normally specifically hire one diplomat per ally, and that way, I can rake in the cash quickly. Currently, I have 4 allies, and I make 4000 instantly every time a rebel shows.

Actually, whenever you are going to attack any faction, check to see who thier enemies are. The "Pay me money and I'll attack your foe" trick is great when you are in a pinch for money. Even if you aren't.. well.. you can use that mony to hire mercs!

Wow, my post is getting lengthy. Anyway, keep me posted on how you are doing! I, for one, just helped my ally, the Sultinate of Syria, defend Jerusalem from evil Spanish Crusaders. It was an epic battle. Man, I love this game.
