ok while typing another post i realized this would be a good topic for discussion
--the religion of the romans was almost completely absorbed by christianity, many saints were gods, and many of the godly attributes went to christian saints--- now as the church continued they didnt really seem to attempt to remove the original pagan influences hence the similar holy days especially the day of Sol Invictus still a holiday in many modern country----
so could we say that the romans actually had a very successful religion that made a evolutionary step into christianity--- or did christianity assimilate the old religion without much intent
and on a deeper point why do monotheistic religions especially the big two islam and christianity seem so focused on conversion unlike almost every other religion on earth which does not try to earn converts (well everyone trys to get converts but im sure you know what I mean :O)
now you could say almost the EXACT same thing happened to the animistic/shamanistic/pagan religion of the arabian penninsula --there is almost no god left out from the change from the moon cult, the vulture worshipper---etc all the tribal religions of the time came into islam, the same way all of the roman religion went into christianity
so would we call this the evolution of religion or the war between thought?
