Default Data Folder: Can't Get Mod Data Loaded...

So I've got a mod folder set up and can get the executable to load the mod into memory. Unfortunately, it only loads the top-level 'data' folder (except for the mod-folder 'worlds' or 'campaign') into memory, ignoring the other data folders contained within the mod's 'data'.

Any ideas of how to resolve this little problem?

    Thanks,

You have a data folder inside a data folder inside your mod folder? If so the data folder is too far down. The structure should be

Rome - Total War/modname/data/everything for the mod

In the everything for the mod you should not have another data folder.

No, I have it set as you described. My problem is the game doesn't seem to load, for example, names from inside the mod, instead loading the default names of the original data folder. I'm using the '-mod=MODNAME' on the command line of the shortcut icon.

I've tried to model my structure on BI, essentially a mod with its own executable, but am not having the same success.

It does not appear to matter whether syntax is:

    '-mod=MODNAME' or '-mod:MODNAME'.

Both seem to call on the data folder containing campaigns but not other data.

    Which data isn't it finding?

Think of the modfolder as the whole RTW folder. It basically acts the same. So when you load a campaign in the mod, a preferences and all the other folders are made, in the same way the first time you run RTW.

So set up the mod folder like: Rome-Total War/modname(nospaces, _ though)/dataIn the data folder, it would be safe for you to add the text and world folder into it. Make some changes to export_unit and change a units name, then see it in a custom battle. If it worked, everything is working perfectly.

Add -show_err and -mod:modname to the target line. Show_err should help spot any problems.

To start making a mod that use -mod:modname you need first -- all files that are in \Data\world\maps to be in \modname\Data\world\maps , sure some of them or all can be diferent from vanila files... and as roman_man#3 says always use -show_err

I'm not really sure why it started reading 'data' from the mod folder, whereas before it didn't. I didn't really do anything significantly different. Did try debugging as RM3 indicated to know that it's working. Really kind of stumped as to why it is working now, but not before. Thanks for all your help, comments, and patience.
