Default (Moved to Vote) Suggestion - Re-organizing the political sub-forums

    Attention, friends!

For long I've wished for a new political section to replace the current Das Pit, or rather, add to it. I think that the political discussion on this site would greatly benefit if the political section was to be divided into two separate sections: one for current events and one for political ideology, theory, and other, more "long-term" topics. As it is, topics that don't involve flame-fests around contemporary US policy along the traditional fault-lines that exist in the political field of TWC usually disappear off the page in a day or two. If someone was to write a lengthy political analysis on the situation in South America, it would be gone from the collective memory without as much as two replies.

I've suggested this a couple of times before and some other senior members have also nodded in approval, but its remained at that. Now I'd like to see if there are others who are interested in such a minor, yet important and useful, change?
The common culture of a tribe is a sign of its inner cohesion. But tribes are vanishing from the modern world, as are all forms of traditional society. Customs, practices, festivals, rituals and beliefs have acquired a flut and half-hearted quality which reflects our nomadic and rootless existence, predicated as we are on the global air-waves.

Wil, what exactly is in your mind?

    A. A subforum in the mudpit?
    B. A new forum in Thema devia?

I agree that a division is needed but too many sub-fora are cumbersome to navigate; probably a current events/ politics split but with a new forum in TD?

I would suggest two different subforumns in the mudpit, one dedicated to ideology, and the other to current events.

    For example:

    Total War Center Forums >
    Common Community >
    Thema Devia >
    The Political Mudpit >
    - Current Events - Political Science and Ideology

Why bother with the main Mudpit, then, Sibsy? Just remove that and replace it might make more sense.

Well, I think that a whole new debate subforum should be set up amongst the Thema Devia. Call it the debate forum or something, and take away the ethos and science place out of the Thema Devia, and add them to this new subforum. THen divide the pit into two sections, one for current events and the other for more lengthly political discussions that currently get two replies and then get burried. Oh, and we could also add the VV to this new debate subforum as well.

ok I admit that I have probably only posted in the mudpit two or three times in 18 months but I will put my 2 cents in.

Wouldnt it be better to move the mudpit out of the Thema Devia and make it a full forum in the CC? - its bigger than the VV which has been a main forum for as long as I can remember. A subforum for the mudpit could then be added - adding another sub forum to the Thema Devia makes it way to cluttered.

Any changes you make are unlikely to effect me but if you want a oppinion of someone detached from the forums in question then my opinion is there

I proposed this in a thread a while ago:

    • Common Community
      • Humanities (think of a better name)
        • The Political Mudpit
        • Ethos (Religion)
        • Philosophy (Metaphysics, Political Theory/Philosophy, Ethics, Epistemology etc.)
        • VV (History)
        • Science
      • Thema Devia and its subforums (Sport etc.)
      • Basement
      • Coliseum

I still think it could work.

Yup, I certainly would support that, looks very good, and more organised and logical, although I think we should move the sciences to the 'humanities' as well, if the thema devia is just left to be a general chat subforum, then we will probably not see much scientific minded people going there.

Okay, I like the Periklean model in the end, but I'm just wondering if it adresses the original problem wilp raised at the start...

Come to think of it, it doesn't really... maybe the politics section should be divided between current events and other politics including political philosophies.

    Common Community
Humanities (think of a better name)
    -News and current events
    -politics including political analysis.
    -Ethos (Religion)
-Philosophy (Metaphysics, Political Theory/Philosophy, Ethics, Epistemology etc.)
    -VV (History)
    -Sciences
    Thema Devia and its subforums
    Basement
    Coliseum

THe sciences should be in the conference hall.

A fair point NM I can see a great deal of confusion from this but then balance that with the OP and I think perhaps that it is worth the work.
Definately worth the work in my opinion.
