Default replacing faction unit roster is a pain

in the a**.... do I seriously have to go through export_descr_units, export_descr_buildings, descr_model_battle and so on?
for example, I've got ALL of the model_battle data, but do I have to insert it in such a frustrating way via the txt file? it doesn't only take time but I have to look through all of the other units which the faction has and replace / change them ...

okay **** it I've given up on this piece of ****. whoever had the idea of linking multiple txt files together and making this ****ing mess of data is a retard and deserves to be slapped.
    WORST game to mod ever.

It takes time, the more time you spend on it, the better you gets.

yes...but it's so complicated editing all of these files and synchronizing them...especially when your source of unit info/data is the crappy alexander addon which is a mess itself

Look at the size of those files, could image how much worse it would be if they were all in one big file. Besides spliting over multiple files allows you to have multiple things from one file refer to a single thing from one of the other files.

I'd cry if they merged absolutely everything into one file.

Instead of trying to replace an entire unit roster, try just adding one unit and get the hang of it, then another, then another. Finish one unit then test, finish second unit then test. This has many advantages:

    1) If you screw up its really easy to know which unit the error is with, since all others work
    2) You get lots of positive feedback as you go along (you get to see each unit that you've successfully put in) which helps keep you motivated

I'm gonna write a little code in c++ which parses the txt files for me and filters only the relevant data out of it and saves that to another file. that way I'll be able to merge it with the rome txt files easier.

You're going to spend far more time doing that then it would take to do all the modding manually.

You have looked at this turtorial for instering units right? To remove them just do the reverse.

of course I know that tutorial and I'm done with the lists, I only have to insert them one by one now and remove the other units of the faction. it's simple now.
but the problem with changing faction names remains. it occured after patching to 1.3 / 1.5

you should only need to change expanded_bi.txt, find the line that says:
    {parthia}<tab>Parthia

    and change it to:

    {parthia}<tab>Persia

This should change the name you see in the game to Persia for the faction.
