Whats the best difficulty level to play this mod?

I play vh/vh as the romans and it is indeed very hard almost to hard but i like it like that as its more of a challenge and i fight every battle.

i have found out that in battles the romans get slaughterd early on in the game well thats all i have played untill now i just buy all roman spearmen to win battles.

if i play on hard instead of vh have i got more chance with getting ceasefire and maybe getting alliances with the guals or the germans.?

Before Marius reforms dont i say do not fight the germans they will slaughter youre legions....The gauls is possible but hard to fight with, though it wont take long until you will bump into germania.

I belive LT recommends playing M/M since it is a challenge with the houserules which you dont play with if only recruiting Triarii for youre legions.

Make war with Carthage and build up Italy economy and wait for Marius reforms until it hit you might have conquered whole carthage and can build youre republican legions. Those will stand up longer against germans but i dont face germania until imperial legioners.

I started a campaign on M/M cause that was what LT said is good and i havent had any problems beating german or gaul armies with my pre-marians and i play almost to the letter on the house rules. Flank flank and more flank. Did i miss something about settings?

No.. M/M is the best setting because later in game, it's getting harder an harder.

At the beginning it will be easy. Later on, when your empire stretches far and wide, and it takes a LONG time to get reinforcement legions to the front, and you are fighting super elite troops, then you will see.
