roman factions
First off, this mod really is amazing. If only MTW could be this fun, haha. Now for my question. Are the stats for the Roman Legions knocked down to make the campaign more challenging? I've noticed when I play as the Julii I have tons of trouble with the Gauls. In battles with an equal amount of infantry on each side It always takes a good flanking cavalry charge right in the backs of the Gauls infantry to turn the tide. If I don't do that I'm sure to lose. Is this supposed to be like this or am I just really rusty with my Roman strategy?
Also, I'm playing on H/H if that helps any.

Re: roman factions
yup! that has been done on purpose to:
1. slow down the roman AI expansion until at least the marius reforms
2. make the game more challenging for the favourite faction in the game. ppl always want a good challenge. i highly recommend the United roman campaign on the big map. prob the most challenging campaign, i have ever had.
the thing with the romans is that, it gives u the opportunity to have less and weaker troops, but then you have to use tactics in order to beat the hordes of gauls and other barbarians.
i remember on rebel gladiator took out like 3 of my principes. lol
i play on VH/H.
VH/VH is a bit too much for me.

Re: roman factions
yeah i am very content with the H/H difficulty I am playing on right now. I gave up on my Julii faction when my last army got crushed in Gaul and my two main cities (names slipped my mind) got hit by 2 full gaul stacks. I've moved onto the Scipii which I found to be easier to expand at first but now I'm fighting about 3 fronts against the Gauls, Carthage and the Numidians. The weaker legions really does make you use more strategy and I'm really liking it.
Another question, what do you think of guard mode? I tend to use it most of the time because it keeps my troops in order, but is it better or worse for attacking?

Re: roman factions
i guess i might not have shared this if the Darth tournament was still going, but oh well. i guess not more multiplayer battles for me.
i have found from my experience that guard mode is better when taking on a charge, whether from horses or from infantry.
it makes ur men stay in line and take the charge. once the enemy horses penetrate ur lines a bit, release them from gaurd mode. automatically ur men will spread out and take up more space. this leads to a part of the enemy cavarly and units to be stuck among you men and are killed pretty fast.
this tactic is pretty good but takes out a bit of practise with the timing and the micro-management.

Re: roman factions
i'll have to try that. usually i just leave them in guard mode unless they're getting attacked from the side or something. good tip tho, ill give it a try!
