My first ever problems! Help a guy out

First I would like to say that I have played yalls mod since it came out and I love it!

I have never had any problems and yesterday was the first time.

I had patch 10 working fine but when I did the hotfix everything messed up. The game would just crash to desktop before I got the first menu.

I uninstalled the entire game and re did it all but didnt do the hotfix this time. I tried to play it with just the patch 10 and now it keeps crashing to desktop. I dont even get the beginning menu that says (uninstall, play, online, options, its the very first menu before the game even starts)

I dont think I missed any steps (I got all the patches and what not)

So can someone help me out with this?

Problem 2- When I run UI.bat I get a (system cannot find the file specified)

Problem 3- Where in the hell is "preferrences.txt" It doesnt show up when I do a search and I cant find it anywhere

must be a corrupt download, it happens. redownload and reinstall and see if that works

ok I just re installed everything so im going to download again. We will see what happens

Problem 2 - You installed the mod into the wrong location, it does into the Rome - Total War directory NOT the data directory, if you installed into the data directory it won't find the required files

Problem 3 - The preferences.txt file will be created the first time the game successfully loads

Alternative possibility: Your command windows open at a certain default path (was the case on my system, don't ask me why the hell it was there). Command windows inevitably will start at a directory specified by a variable which is most likely the wrong path since it won't contain the files/commands. So if that's the case

-either manually edit (New_)UI.bat and insert the correct drive specification (=the one with RTW installed) and directory of install in DOS format above the first command line:
[drive with RTW install]:
cd [directory\...\directory with RTW install]
(not sure about the second line, probably you can leave it out)

-or delete the default path variable. To do this, open work station->advanced->variables and then change or delete the line which reads 'default_command_window_path' or the like.

As SquidSK said. In case you already successfully ran the game before you should try looking for preferences with 1 'r'

Alternate 3, you installed in the wrong place. You are running Vista, Windows2000, or Windows98. If New_UI.bat or UI.bat report they cannot find a specified file, it's because the mod is installed in the wrong directory OR you are running an OS other than Windows XP. Reason being, I INCLUDED the files it needs to find in the very places it MUST look for them IN the Installer so it WOULD find them IF you install the mod in the RIGHT place. Secondly, if you are running Vista, 2000, or 98, the files I included do not work with those Operating Systems....so it is either or.
