Icon4 Mixed Sounds or CTD when clicking units in Campaign map?

Turns out for Non English versions of MTW2, you need one of the following.

    Potential Fix #1
If you're having CTDs when clicking on faction units on the campaign map, the issue may be that Non-English Versions of MTW2 don't have all the accent types.
    Open \The_Long_Road\data\descr_sounds_accents.txt
Modify the particular faction to have another accent type. For example, chance scotland to have an english accent.
Delete everything in \The_Long_Road\data\sounds\* in order to rebuild the sound database.
    Restart the Game.

    Potential Fix #2
"When you have wrong character sounds or when you have other sound problems, delete events.dat and events.idx from the \The_Long_Road\data\sounds folder. Copy events.dat and events.idx from your main \Medieval II Total War\data\sounds folder and paste them into the \The_Long_Road\data\sounds folder."

    Potential Fix #3
    Copy the complete sound folder
    ***from***
    \Medieval II Total War\Data\Sounds
    ***to***
    \Medieval II Total War\The_Long_Road\Data\Sounds

Let me know how this works for you.

Hmm. Do you have the english version of MTW2? It turns out that sound files cause issues like this in localized version of MTW2. Try the above.

Ok, that's work, no more crash

But now, all the voices are not in places.

For example, french princess speak with italian accent, french troops with HRE accent, scottish priest with arab accent ....

on the battlefield, all troops got the italian accent.

    I got a french version of M2TW.

Hmm, it seems to be an issue with the paths in
    export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt

It seems to be localized and it may be different for each language. Blah.
Anyone ever unpack their sound files.

For those of you with mixed sounds. Try deleting export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt.
That will likely take them away completely.

Please let me know how it works for you.

    hi

i have the same probleme and try deleting export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt but it don't work (rename it with another extension in order to restore it later )
so i try the same with other "sounds" files, with all sounds files, with combination of sounds files ...

I try to find what mp3 are for what language and see why they speak with another accent but i have not the french sounds file... so i can't compare with your english files
in conclusion i try to unpack my sounds files but there is that many audio files, it will be dificult and i understand now how that was hard for you to make that great mod !

    news later

    EDIT :
    So i have find a problem :
in the file export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt i search where i have the most visible bug : the scotish with arabic accent
and i find after unpacking my french data sounds that there is no scotish files
even for the princess or the general and admiral
i think the game take the first sounds he find : the arabic ....

the sounds ingineer maybe haven't find scotish who speak french with scotish accent

i don't know what to do... i think the game make speak the scotish with another voice accent ... i'm trying to find which is it.

    news another time later

    EDIT 2:
    yeepee! find the solution !!!
but in fact it's not a final solution ...
so i search why we haven't got the scotish sounds and after many problem (why when i unpack my M2T pack i don't get the export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt or other sounds files? ) i find what i was searching :

somebody in the forums says (thx to him) that if you delete the events idx it will be rebuilt by the game when you will play.
so i do this and before lunch the game i change the file descr_sounds_accents.txt in the The_Long_Road\data folder by cuting scotish from scotish accent to English accent category.
I lunch the game and click on a scotish general => yeepee he speak as an english genreal will

the problem is that i see also that there is not estern europe mp3 ... i hope it will not be the same probleme but i can't test because i'm on a little island ...
    the export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt isn't change after this ... is it a problem ?
how do you obten this file with my own M2T pack?

hope this will work for other persons ( how do you write peaple? ... people? piple? ... )

    Ok, let me understand.

First, export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt was given to us by CA directly. They obviously only gave us the English version. It may be different for other languages which is the cause of the problem.

So you said that you modified the descr_sounds_accents.txt and made scotland have an english accent, and it worked when you rebuilt the sound database. Interesting... Did you have scottish sounding generals in vanilla?

If the answer is no, then maybe I just need to make a special descr_sounds_accents.txt file for non-english languages that map scottish/eastern european to other accents. That would be a decent solution.

there is only 3 sounds with "scot" in it :
    French_Heavy_scots_guard_1.wav
    French_Heavy_scots_guard_2.wav
    Scotland_Initial_Advice_Text_01_Text1.mp3

seems that the only solution is to change the accent ...
and same way for eastern ...

so the only solution is to change descr_sounds_accents.txt

this works apparently with all english mods ( i have not tested because i have onli TLR instaled but i hear same problem for other mods )
but maybe functions only in french version ... i have not the italian version to test it

thx a lot for all you do for us !

There is no need to copy the whole Sound folder, maybe it's not even helpful. It should be fixed by replacing the two "events" files (one is .idx, forgotten the other format) in your mods "sound" folder with your vanilla files. Worked for me and others on various mods.

well, but certain units are not talking now. I have tried the three options and no solution. Even I am having an strange visual problem see it that I think it could be related to the sound problem.
