    Default Movement speeds.

    Hi,

    Im trying to give all my armies/agents/navies more movement points. I change it in desc_character as i believe your suppose to, but nothing happens. No changes at all.

    Any Ideas?

    P.S. Im using Darthmod os21. But that uses the same file as med 2 uses.

    Moved to the Mod Workshop.

    Are you editing the descr_character.txt in the darth mod data folder?

    Tried modding it there and in the main med folder.

    Neither seems to work.

    I use to have a different darthmod for patch 1.1. I really liked the large movement allowances. In os21 for 1.2 it is back to how it was originally.

    Are you modding the correct line, the starting_action_points line for each entry.

    Definitely I changed

    starting_action_points 180 ; default value for all characters and pathfinding calculations

    to 250

    and moved up all the others to similar numbers.

    There was no change.

    The vanilla version of the game's movement points are fine as they are, so why change them? I used to think they was a little bit low and that my men could easily move faster but if you think of it, you are moving an army which would take days to organize and move, then there would be camping day and night, and then the terrain.

    In one of the darthmods the movement points of troops were probably twice as large as the vanilla values. It was great! It lead to much more fluid and dynamic campaign movements. I always thought the movement points were too low in vanilla anyway. It always felt you could move your troops a very sort distance in 6 months of game time.

    Thanks for the help Lusted. I managed to get it to work in the end after some play testing.

    Ive always felt that troops should move slowly since they need supplies and are heavily equipped. Agents on the other hand should be able to move much faster by comparison. One guy on a horse can travel many times faster than a whole army. Game wise the restricted movement of agents limits them in their usefulness. Especially diplomats.

    Be default the descr_character.txt file is packed, you need to unpack it inn order to be able to edit it. Please read some tutorials on the basics of setting Medieval II up for modding.

    Thanks Divus Lusted, you helped me a alot. I found this tutorial to unpack the files and I managed to increase the movement points!

    Edit//:

    I failed....
    I unpacked the America files. Next I edited the descr_character.txt and changed the points.
    After this, I deleted the two non needed geography files. Next I created a new batch in my Medieval II folder, named it 'batch' and wrote

    kingdoms.exe --features.mod=mods/americas --io.file_first

    Saved, and started the game using this 'batch'.

    Everything was looking good, I started a new campaign.
    But now it looks like this. The movement points are good but the rest is not

    lol you complicated things. put io_filefirst in the config, it's easier.
    Code:
    movies = false

    [misc]
    unlock_campaign = true
    show_hud_date = true

    [io]
    file_first = 1

    You would have to add in traits to increase the line of sight of your characters if you want to solve the problem you have, that's the only way you can.

    Hmmm...
    I changed the movement points back to default and the UI is still looking that strange. How can a character trait make the UI look 'normal'?
