I down loaded RTR gold for my RTW gold game but when i click on the box it instals the game and says enjoy playing RTR but when i click again it just repeats instalation also it dosent change my RtW game at all please help me i don't know what i'm doing wroung and I cand find the answer.

RTR gold is for RTW 1.2
For your RTW gold version you should download RTR Platinum

Give up and install RTRPE 1.9 instead. Usually the not working thing involves,

a) corrupted download
b) wrong mod for RTW version
c) mod installed in the wrong folder

* regrading b) - make sure you install RTR 6 Gold onto RTW 1.2 patch or install RTRPE (current version 1.9) into RTW 1.5 or BI 1.6

Before installing the mod, make sure to run the unmodded game, click option and see what number is written on the top right corner of the screen. The number (1.0 , 1.1 , 1.2 , 1.3 ,1.5 & 1.6 or 1.9 for RTW-Alexander) are you version number.

If you number is 1.0, get the official patch from SEGA/CA official site.

You should also add the 'show_err' switch to the shortcut that you use to launch the game. You will have seen an error message (although it won't mean anything in this case).

The following is the one that I use (for RTR 6 Gold and not RTR PE - but they launch in the same manner).

"C:\Program Files\Activision\RTR 6 Gold\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -battle_editor -movie_cam

If you are able to translate this into details someone might be able to help you, but otherwise it`s hard to guess. Recently we`ve been getting these "help" period messages that I don`t know what to do with.
Obviously you`ve messed something, either the download of the mod or the install, but if you want to be helped it`s in your interest to give more details.

Ok I have Rome total war gold no mods being gold its version 1.5. I downloaded rometotalrelism at http://d01.megashares.com/?d01=cb94b4d it installed after it was done about an hour later a window opened up asking if I wanted to open it or something to that effect. I did so and it opened a note pad file titled rometotalrelism but it contained what looked like gibberish. It was a 30 something page long wall of text consisting of a random assortment of letters numbers and punctuation marks. That’s about it nothing happened to my game its still the same old vanilla Rome total war. No other links programs or icons allowing access to the game I tried and tried but cant seem to get any version of this game to work this was my latest attempt and it came to nothing. I really like what I’ve heard about the changes to the game in this mod and I spoiling to play it if there is any thing that any one can say or do to help me please thanks in advance.

Oh I just read your instructions, and to clarify my package has 3 RTW discs and 1 BI disk I had both installed and since originally I had moded my RTW game so I could use all factions but when I got rid of it the first time I only reinstalled RTW however I did notice that even though it said ver. 1.5 in the options. There was no law bonus on either the academy or wall buildings in the game and on the RTW sight it said the 1.5 patch had them on both vanilla and BI so is that my problem. Or is there something ells. To be honest I have never really played PC games before this. So I’m a complete novice to moding and patching in general

By the way when I got rid of it I deleted everything the game, saves, shortcuts, and files and started completely from scratch or at least I think I did?

Are you sure that your RTW is v1.5?
I also have 3disk RTW since 2004/5 and its v1.0 , to see what is your verSion of RTW go to Option (in same window where you chose campaign historical battles..etc) and in right up corner you will see your version if its 1.5 than is ok ,if not you should download patch 1.3 and patch 1.5

Then unrar the file that u have download from megashare and yust install simple like that , i have make that installer to be user friedly so he will find your instalation path u can chose options ...etc

So go uninstall RTW and start all from beggining its not so commpicate....

If you have the 3 CD version it is probably v1.0. Now, if you have BI separately on a disc it should be most likely v1.4. If you install your RTW and the BI you have it should update the RTW to v1.3 and not the required v1.5. What I recommand is to do a clean install:
1. uninstall your game(if you have saved games move them in another folder)
2. delete the game folder.
3. install RTW again.
4. start the game, go to Options in the first menu and look in the upper right corner. I guess it will say ver 1.0.
5. No matter what it says, install BI. Start RTW and go in the Optionions again and check the version. If my guess is correct it will say ver 1.3. If it does:
6. install BI patch v1.6. This will bring your BI to v1.6, but it will also update your RTW to the required v1.5.
7. Start the game and see it it works.
8. You might want to make a copy of your game folder and store it someplace else if you have space. This will save you from having to uninstall if you mess something up with the mod. If you do mess it, you can just delete that folder and replace it with a copy of the backed up one.
9. Install RTRPE(you might want to wait a day or so because the next version will probably be released in that interval and it will have a few more fixes then the current RTRPE v1.8).

Yes install the BI 1.6 patch.

If you've intalled BI and the BI 1.6 patch you dont need to worry about what RTW version you have (although it should be 1.5). RTR Platinum will work with BI patch 1.6 for sure ( you have to fiddle with the BI desktop short-cut but it takes only 5 minutes max.http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58291)

If you can run BI and it says 1.6 in options, go ahead and install RTR PE 1.8.

Yes, what happens is that BI is v1.4 and even if you would have had the RTW to v1.5, installing BI on top would have downgraded RTW to v1.3. So, if Bi is v1.4 you need to install the BI patch v1.6. There should be a dl link for it in the guide form my sig. Install that and then install RTRPE.

In a PM to me Marcus mentioned that he is about to release the next version that will include a number of fixes. So, it should be close to release, but, you never know how it goes.... I mean don`t blame me if after a day or two the new version is still not out. I made the suggestion in good faith.
Any new RTRPE release will be done in a pinned thread in this sub-forum:

The thread`s title will contain the name and version of the mod.

Meanwhile, if you have already downloaded the RTRPE v1.8 you could try it out to see how it is(and get the hang of the installation ) if you make a backup copy of your game folder before you install the mod. In this case reverting any changes will be easy by simple deleting the modified folder and replacing it with a copy of the clean one.
