    Default The White City: Total War



    The White City is a modification for Medieval 2: Total War that deals with the wars between various Balkan countries and the Ottoman Empire, between the years 1450 and 1600. Belgrade, the White City, is the very centre of the modification. If we were to draw a map of all these wars (which is what we are going to do), Belgrade and its surrounding area would most likely be in the middle. It had a dramatic history in the early Modern Era.
    WC: TW is seeking to represent the conflict in an accurate manner while keeping in mind what would make it most enjoyable for the player. Each faction will have its own way of playing. For example, playing the Ottomans will be the easiest, but you will confront problems that the Ottoman sultans faced: rebellions based on the different ethnicities in the empire, treacherous generals, weak and undetermined soldiers etc., while a weaker faction like Serbia would try to arrange its best soldiers to fight the Turks' overwhelming numbers. A ruler with lighter coffers would choose his tactics wisely, ask perhaps stronger factions for help; but if his diplomatic skills aren't his strong spot, a wide range of mercenaries is at his disposal. Although our modification focuses on the Balkans, the northern part of Italy and the Carpathians, the player will be able to recruit mercenaries from Europe and beyond. For instance, if an Ottoman sultan does well in his Balkan campaign, he will be able to fund his generals' other campaigns, and receive local soldiers and hired warriors from them, along with rich exotic resources.
    The Ottoman Empire's famous military group, the Janissaries, will also be a key feature; in each region they conquer, the Turks will recruit Janissaries from the local population. For example, in all regions belonging to historical Serbia, the Empire will recruit Serbian Janissaries that will keep some of the characteristics the free Serbs had in battle.
    The Byzantine Empire, heir of the legendary Roman Empire, would live 3 years from the modification's start. However, it will not feature as a playable faction in the campaign. However, in the custom battles, a wide variety of historical units will be featured.

    We are fully open to all kinds of suggestions as far as they don't contradict the main ideas of the modification. We are more in need of coders, as we plan to modify a great deal of the M2:TW features, but skinners, modelers and artists are certainly welcome. Since we are still in the planning/research stages, so we are asking all available historians for help!

    Thats it. Yeah, well I can't help you because I hate doing real historical mods from which I have no familiarity with....

    Then I will remove you from the list... Vuk told me you'd help, but I guess you thought you were doing a LotR mod.

    You hate doing historical mods? Isn't ITW mostly historical?

    Good luck with this guys. I'd love to see a mod with emphasis on Serbia and Balkans. This and Feudalism are the only ones i know i've seen so far.

    Thank you! But bear in mind that it's not only Serbia against the Ottomans. It's all the peoples in the area, and the map will even include a bit of Italy and Austria as mentioned by my first post.

    It's not good when a city that doesn't exist is more famous than a real city, with an interesting history.

    But as I mentioned, it's not a Serb mod. It just puts the accent on Belgrade because it was an important city in the secular struggle.

    Inca is Historical but they have the Maya, and I like where they once settled so I know my chunks of info. I cannot devot much time to the mod, but if you need something in particular, just ask me.

    Sorry to hear that Murf.
    WC:TW will have most of the factions playable, but the main faction, and the one that the mod emphasizes is Serbia. The focus is tightened even more unto Belgrade as it is of key strategic importance during the timeline of the mod. It is the only hope that the Balkanic peoples and even the people of Europe have to stop the Ottoman conquest. If the White City is taken, the Ottoman Empire will be free to make its way across the Balkans and all of Europe. While playing as the Ottoman Empire, it is your primary objective to take the White City as soon as possible. If playing as the Serbs, you must do everything in your power to ensure that the White City does not fall. The mod with have a strong emphasis on Serbian culture and the kingdom of Serbia, but will not leave any important culture or kingdom out. Even the Byzantine Empire will be playable (with a full unit list) in custom battles and multiplayer.

    Yes, but I did not join Vuk because of that. That also contributed, though.
    I feel that the Balkans are ignored, and I want to practice my modding skills. These were the main factors.
