Lusted: Great Mod! ... input on balancing units.
Just wanted to thank you for the great mod.
I havn't played MTWII for awhile now (damn World of Warcraft); but just got back into it.
Have been playing with your mod for the past week; and I really like it.
I wanted to give you my input about unit balancing; for me this is the most important thing about the game.
- For me when I play a game of MTWII; I want to play a real challenging game but I also want to play with a civ that has great units. But then I also what the civs balanced so the civ I choose isnt ALL powerful or other civs being all powerful etc ...
I started up 4 games so far. And fooled around with the different units (some in testing and some in-game).
My thoughts:
- As you pointed this out; archery (bows, xbows, guns) - need rebalancing.
I know in testing I took a unit of genosean xbows vs the top danish cavs (forgot name) the ones with like 11/17/7 stats. And the xbows almost take out 1/2 the cavs before they even get to the xbows.
a. I think you did a great job balancing all the bow users; but the xbows seem way too strong; reload times should be ALOT longer if they can do that much damage. I never got to gunpowder yet so I dont have any comments on this.
- Some special units from certain civs are not up to par compared to other civs. Example the english foot knights compared to the 2 handed axemen of the danish. english polearms tear many things apart.
a. The venetian heavy infantry - can almost beat any melee unit in the game (they are way too strong).
b. The danish Obud(spelling) the guys that have armor piercing and can make a spear wall. Are not that great - these could use a slight buff.
c. Seems like some units that are specialty units of a civ are actually worse then the typical units; ie the lancers and and german gothic knights.
I'll add more to this in the future just wanted to get those out there ...
thanks again for a great mod to a great game
