    Default Unit Descriptions

I've noticed some things in "unit descriptions" which are false, such as stating they have phalanx capability when they don't, etc. And there are some other things I wanted to add to, which I'll let you see if I can work on the files. I wanted to double-check that nobody is working on these files though, nor any new units - because these files would obviously change if new units are being added.

thanks...I'll be waiting for a reply,
    Gersh
P.S. I don't plan on editing any unit descriptions as far as about the actual unit, just some special info first.

I saw this, too, in the Greek Hoplites. Also, there is a space before the first word, so it looks all funny.

Well what I'm doing so far is going through and taking out any redundant information (such as phalanx ability, sapping, form wedge, etc. - anything you can find in the UI anyways), and then adding their armor type for now (because it's not always obvious by the number)...maybe it will help give us a clue too for what armors could be changed/different. There are a lot of simply "flesh" or "metal"...haven't found any "leather" yet.

I'm assuming you are talking about 'export_units.txt' ? We had a guy who worked on it, but he had to go away. So be my guest. Just remember to write protect this file...otherwise the game writes garbage in it a LOT.

I'll hold off adding any new units other than this:

    {augustus_caesar} Imperator Caesar Augustus

    {augustus_caesar_descr}
Elite\nInspires Friendly Units\n\n(Emperor)A Roman Imperator, in the old Republic, was a victorious and valiant General awarded a 'Triumph' by the Senate. This title in full, however, was given to Julius Caesar by the Senate (under duress, one can imagine!), and was from there on the title of Roman Emperors. so this man and his guards are the future Roman Emperor and his Praetorian Cohort. You can only build this unit in Rome at this time in history, and you may want to have more than one. Once in place, you should campaign with this General until he becomes a family member, and then elevate him to his rightful position by marching his army to Rome, throwing out the current Governor or Counsul, and making him the Faction Leader.

    {augustus_caesar_descr_short}
You should campaign with this General until he becomes a family member, and then elevate him to his rightful position by making him your faction leader and Emperor of the Roman Empire!!!

    Which I have already added.

I didn't add this one yet...but I will. Just testing out the file right now though.

Unit descriptions which were "removed" because they no longer were being used:

    warband_sword_briton
    barb_warguard_dacian
    barbsword_dacian
    barb_warguard_spain
    naked_fanatics_dacian
    naked_fanatics_slave
    naked_fanatics_spain
    barb_noble_cavalry_dacian
    barb_british_general_briton
    carthaginian_city_militia
    east_slinger
    arabian_infantry
    east_elephant_african
    egyptian_archer
    egyptian_archer_elite
    egyptian_camel_archers
    egyptian_chariot_archer
    roman_archer
    roman_infantry_auxillia
    carthaginian_peltast
    rerserve_cohort
    elite_archers
    greek_hades_guerrier_corynthe
    greek_marine_syracuse
    barb_guard_dacia
    italian_hastati
    gallic_hastati
    pergamum_sacred_band
(Note: all descriptions are used according to the "dictionary" in "export_descr_unit.txt" - they were removed based on that)

If any of those were supposed to be in the game - then they need added to the "export_descr_unit.txt" file I mentioned also, then the descriptions can be reinstated.

Also - there were some units with "flesh" for armor, and yet a 5-7 rating.?.? Too high IMO for just "flesh"...it should either be leather, or lower rated armor. And the file was pretty messy too - unit descriptions scattered in reference to the export stat file (not that the stat file seems to have perfect order either though). When doing something of this magnitude...you always have to try to make it as orderly as possible and group things when possible. A nice grouping would be having either all of the factions in order and then units in some type of order (which is difficult considering some units are available for multiple factions), or the best way is to either arrange it all alphabetically or by type (then perhaps alphabetically, etc.). But arrangement could be: peasants and peltasts, then light infantry, then heavy infantry, then light cavalry, then heavy cavalry, then generals units, then engines, then boats, etc. But right now it seems just a bit too random though there are some headings above some areas. But all of this would make adding, editing, comparing, etc. a whole lot easier.

P.S. Here is my changed unit descriptions txt:

Just simply copy it into your data/text folder after unzipping it. This is a "preliminary" edit so far, but it might help the game run a bit smoother since it has less stuff to look through, especially since some of the descriptions were for non-existant units.

I know that EDU may 'seem' disordered, but I have it memorized, almost, the way it is. What's important for me now is keeping units of 'type' as near each other as possible so it's easier to keep costs and stats equitable.

BTW, some of those units you mention above were either combined or renamed.

I know some were "combined." If others were "renamed" - then I hope the appropriate name has a text description with it, and the double was just "left there" (by accident probably). I started a campaign with the Gauls afterwards and only noticed that the Gallic noble cavalry were missing a unit description (probably was missing before I started editing it though). And it's not that it's missing...it is in the file...there's just something "wrong" with it I think - I'm double-checking it for any extra \'s. Also - did you guys mean to give the Gauls, etc. two sets of "light spear infantry"? I have two sets...exactly identical stats, just that one is cheaper - so I know which one I'm recruiting (duh?). lol

    Gersh

**edit** Do you want me to submit this file when it's "done" to the main page for download? Or are you guys working on an update/patch again which this could be included in?

No, post it here, because I'm going to post a small Hotfix in a while anyway. A feww minor animation fixes, a change to formations....small stuff.

Yeah, the two 'light spear' units are different, so if you could change the descriptions it would be nice.

The new txt thus far including the augustus_caesar add-in:

    http://www.badongo.com/file/3207876

There are probably some replicated info still left in there which displays in the description that is also already displayed as the unit's ability, but I'm tired and finding it hard to work on it lately due to busyness. So I'm submitting this file so far in case you're close to releasing next patch/update. So a couple of questions:

1.) Besides the installer - is it possible to release these to developers as rar files also? (or 7z - anything with good compression, but where I can check out the files without having to try to "trick" the installer). I know this will mean extra uploading, but I've been thinking about:

2.) Converting this mod into it's own mod folder like some others. This is a good mod, but sometimes people don't like and might not even try mods like this which essentially write over the data files. If I remember correctly - it's not that difficult to make it into it's own folder (haven't done it in a while). But there will probably need to be files which are definitely overwritten (UI I think).

3.) This is just a note about my edit of the txt file - I didn't edit/combine any descriptions which would require me to edit the unit stats txt as well (export_descr_units.txt)...especially since I see threads about new units and factions.

    That's all for now.

If I might ask what's the point of the Agustus unit you described above. There's no way we can guarantee an adoption so it just seems silly to me. I am, eventually, going to add Romen cognomen into the traits, which would sort of do the same thing, but it isn't a high priority item at the moment.
