    Icon5 new_ui.bat doesn't seem to exist.

    Hi,

I've been attempting to install this mod but I'm having some difficulty. I'm not entirely sure whether this is the right area of the forum, but hopefully someone will be able to help me in any case.

I downloaded the full mod (which I believe is v7), the v10 patch and the v10 hotfix. The first time I attempted to install, I installed the full mod, the patch and the hotfix in sequence (I want to add that when installing the hotfix, the installer popped up a cmd window which asked me whether a file or directory was being specified by the program - which is it?), and then went to the RTW directory to run new_ui.bat and ui.bat.

The problem seems to be that new_ui.bat doesn't exist. Ui.bat was there, but not new_ui.bat. Isn't this a bit bizarre? Is it a file which the mod installs or should it be there anyway? I have the White Label version of RTW, which is pre-patched to 1.5, if that helps.

Hopefully someone can help me soon, because this mod looks great.

Edit: More information - I wonder if I'm looking in the right directory. C:/Program Files/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War
Strangely, there is no preferences.txt file in this directory either, which I know that I need to edit as well.

Something may be wrong with your install of RTW if there is no preferrence.txt. One of our beta testers had this problem. Also, if there is no 'NEW_UI.bat in your RTW directory, you installed the mod in the wrong place.

Do you have a preference.txt before you start playing RTW? Isn't it created at first game?

You need to install the mod to the Rome - Total War folder, not the data folder.

I definitely installed it in the correct folder. I followed the instructions to the letter. The only difference on my machine is that the path to the RTW directory is different because I have a White Label version of the game (I think it's equivalent to Gold - it comes prepatched to 1.5).

I reinstalled RTW several times to no avail - still no preferences file and no new_ui.bat upon reinstallation of the mod. Perhaps this mod is incompatible with White Label/Gold versions of RTW? I have installed another mod now with no difficulty (it's XGM - I like Greek history), so I'm not sure what the problem is.

There are two things consistant about this mod.....it has all the files it needs to run (except for the occasional texture I miss ), and it must be installed in your C: or D: or whatever drive letter \(Your RTW Folder). So if the path to your RTW is C:\My Total War, then that's where it needs to be put. If you put it in C:\My Total War\Data, it will not work.

Preferrences.txt is ALSO in C:\My Total War (or whatever) and is part of the game itself. It stores the settings you set when you go into options and set things. If it isn't there, then your install of RTW is corrupt. The game can't even work without that file.

I've never heard of a 'White Label' version, but I have the backed up original installs of RTW, RTW patched to v1.3 & v1.5, AND Barbarian Invasion patched to v1.6...and every one of them has a preferrences.txt in it.

Everybody's path could be different...when you install RTW you can name the directory anything you want. I personally just call it D:\Rome3 or Rome4, and don't install it in the Program Files folder. If you use the default path, it will likely be 'C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome Total War' ....or something like that.
That provides three opportunities to mistakenly install the mod in the wrong place. Go into the 'data' folder of your install, and double click 'export_descr_units.txt'........it should say this at the top:

    Roma Surrectum Release 1 Build 5.1, Hotfix6 for Patch10 , Angel's Stats v3.5 '0' Turn file, modified

If it doesn't, mod is in wrong place.

White Label is an American thing that really messes games up, IMO. Anyway, that shouldn't be a problem, all it does is patches to 1.5.
