    Default Resolution probloms.

So, just installed Medieval II Total War & every thing's fine until after the map loads, i get a message on my screen from the monitor saying the signal is out of range & no output is selected then it just to standby until i close it down.
I'm using a 1440x900 wide screen & tried numerous screen settings on the game menu yet they don't seem to work.
I'm hoping it's a simple reason as to why it's not but any help would be great.

    Thanks.

Are you successfully running 1440x900 in Windows? If so, try setting the games both resolution settings to 1440x900. If you are unable to use 1440x900 in Windows as well, try updating the monitor driver.

    Hi,

I was running everything O.K apart from the game, i just installed a new driver & it worked for a bit then done the said thing.

    I'll keep trying.

    Thanks.

Are both your battle and campaign map settings set to 1440x900?

    Check your medieval2.preference.cfg (open it with txtpad) and in the [video] menu, check battle_resolution = 1024 768 and campaign_resolution = 1024 768 .

The 1024 768 represent resolution. Make sure it is the resolution you want.

Sometimes, the file medieval2.preference.cfg is corrupeted by who knows what, and your "campaing_resolution" "and your "battle resolution" change by himself. If it changes to a resolution your graphic card canot display, your screen will go on sleep mode while starting the game.

So if you have that kind of problems, down the resolution of the "campaign_resolution" and your "battle resolution" to 1024 768 (edit : if you have a wide screen, use a low-compatible resolution), save the file (do a backup before) and then start the game and change the resolution inside the game, using preferences ; there, it will say you if your device is able to display the resolution you want.

Sometimes, the problem is due to mods witch have their own *.cfg files with their resolutions conflicting with the main resolution.

If you modify the cfg files as mentioned above and still have no luck check to see that the game hasn't reset your custom resolutions in the cfg files.

If it has, right-click on the cfg file, select properties and mark the file as read-only so the game will no longer be able to edit it after you make your changes.

[Edit] I also had this problem using ATI Tray Tools and forcing the game to use a refresh rate it couldn't handle, I simply added medieval2.exe to my ignore list.

For a simple resolution you can Alt-Tab out of the game as soon as your monitor losses input, once back on the desktop (and the monitor has come back on) you should be able to switch back to the game without hassle.
