Re: Fatal Graphics Error On Startup

Re-installing windows is a pretty drastic step to get a game going. But then it wouldn't be the first time that a windows update plays havoc with Total War - see the protection issue I mentioned in...

Re: Fatal Graphics Error On Startup

No-one here is advocating re-installing windows. Nor did Heinrichus mention the Steam link where it was done.

[Tutorial] Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions

    Me and my big mouth....

The port will show up but it won't be buildable (grey, 'this building is not available yet'). If it was buildable it would be red like the gallows.

    grey means that the...
  10. Re: Have Steam dumbed down the Alexander exe file?

Princesses age like any other agent, hence the test if the princess still exists.

We eventually discarded the 'killing and reborn' method as it bloated the save game until it couldn't be loaded...
  11. Re: Admirals not Relinquishing their command (Merging Fleets)

They might be a hidden trait involved as technically you are right that a fleet without traits or ancillaries should merge with another fleet. Do a simply search and replace action in the EDCT that...

    Re: Rome I Remastered.

Don't hold your breath regarding the factions, there are no new faction slots so far, the 37 factions are spread over 3 game parts.

Myself, I am still waiting for confirmation that the geography...
  13. Re: Rome Total War won't run anymore on Windows 7?

MSI Afterburner is known to interfere with M2TW - maybe some other third party application that messes with the game?
  14. Re: Strange Occurence: Captains and Admirals with Surnames(?!)

Some stuff is not save game compatible (reload) even though it does not cause a crash. This could have been one such side effect.
  15. Re: "Start Campaign" reverts to previous screen

Compressing a TGA file should not cause 'pixelation' (done so when doing the smooth coast thingy in PS). Resizing however does if you do not use the 'nearest pixel (?)' option in Photoshop. I am not...
  16. Re: Have Steam dumbed down the Alexander exe file?

The 'spawn and later move' principle is there to make sure that the princess gets back to the original spot in case she gets bumped by a character.
    The sequence would be:
    1. check if the princess...
  17. Re: "Start Campaign" reverts to previous screen

'Crash to menu' is nearly always an issue with the descr_strat file - the error itself usually well documented in the log.
  18. Re: Strange Occurence: Captains and Admirals with Surnames(?!)

Just tried in descr_strat with good old Geiles but the admiral didn't like his new surname and stuck to his 'admiral' title.
Even removing the {ST_ADMIRAL}Admiral entry in text\shared didn't change...
  19. Re: Have Steam dumbed down the Alexander exe file?

Ah yes, missed to respond that:
Trade in M2TW is solely based on the resources listed in descr_sm_resources and their presence on the map via descr_strat, hence my comment about trading resources...

Re: Fatal Graphics Error On Startup

Set your game resolution to 1024*768 in the CFG file (#32) - easiest way is to install my desktop short cuts and then edit any of the campaign's...

  23. Re: EDU: are spaces allowed in mount entry,

The entry has to tally with the 'type' entry from descr_mounts. Enough examples from vanilla that spaces are acceptable, eg eastern armoured horse. How you format that is up to you as long as it is...
  24. Re: Have Steam dumbed down the Alexander exe file?

The slave faction is essential for game mechanics and has too many pitfalls to be able to be played.
The pope is a special faction as well (see descr_sm_faction entry) but can be played. A lot of...

stone forts and labeling them - not sure what else you might mean with map labels, please specify.

  26. Re: Have Steam dumbed down the Alexander exe file?

    map size - same
    immortality - doesn't work in M2TW
    dead characters - no problem
EDU - 512 entries is limit

Essentially there are very few differences between the two versions. More agents and...
  27. Re: Rome Total War won't run anymore on Windows 7?

Seeing that the game explorer is defunct then renaming the driver would appear to be the best approach.

You may also consider moving the game into a different library if you are using mods, to...

  30. Re: Rome Total War won't run anymore on Windows 7?

Odd. It runs like a charm on my win10 machine - the safe disk stuff does not apply to the Steam version.
Which method (how) do you use to start the game?
Have you checked if there is an entry in...
  31. Re: Rome Total War won't run anymore on Windows 7?

    Any error messages?

Check this with regards to 'safe disk'

Ever thought of 'converting' your RTW disk to Steam? Which in turn can get you a 50% discount for RTW remastered...
  32. Sticky: [Resource] Re: List of non or mal functioning script terms (events, conditions and commands)

Hence why I linked to both references in the OP. battle script = crash reported with more then 2 armies. campaign script = apparently fine all along.
  33. Re: Have Steam dumbed down the Alexander exe file?

Good news that 'disabling optimization' will make large resolutions possible. Might work for M2TW as well...
  34. Re: Question Regarding Settlement Name Changes

That's a lot of effort to keep track of the settlement name, just so you don't execute a trigger within a mile long IF monitor (which has no impact on turn times).

    And not IsFactionAIControlled...

Guess that was word association - in Rome 2 you can control 40 units, and Rome 1 was just remastered.
  36. Re: Question Regarding Settlement Name Changes

Choosing a suitable event depends on what the goal is. The capture event only covers that event but has the advantage that the change is immediate, eg the player will be aware of it right away....

  38. Re: Question Regarding Settlement Name Changes

Agreed, the extent of simplification depends on the goal (just a name change or more referencing) and the means (related events and conditions) available to reach it.
