I agree with triptyck, normal price for a new release now. I have had zero problems too. Well worth the small cost.
You can go in the folder and copy/move the save game file out, run the game again so it recreates the appdata folder and drop the save game back in.
Not really a Tech Support issue, that is a game play issue. Either the tool tip is too ambiguous or it is not working as intended. Either way it will probably be patch fixed or modded fixed.
Mind posting a dxdiag? This sounds more like that sort of problem to me.
If you have already deleted your rome install and have installed fresh or verified cache, make sure you delete your appdata/roaming/the creative assembly/rome 2 folder too and then try starting it....

Speeches are there, but you have to actually be zoomed into the general unit at the start of the battle to hear them. I tend to miss them since I am busy moving units or watching the enemy move.
I had the freezing problem when the beta came out and traced it to mods I using weren't compatible with the (beta at the time) patch. So try removing all mods, verify cache and see if it runs.

I dropped the 5.1.3 patch into the great war /files folder but the launcher still says it is running 5.1.0. I'm new to TGW mod (but not mods in general) so not sure if this is a small oversight or...
