  1. Re: Does authority, cunning and zeal work in your game? (WoS/IA)

Are you sure you don't have any mods active?
  2. Re: The Stainless Steel Answer Station - ask all questions here - NOT FOR BUG REPORTS!

I'm pretty sure there's an option in the setup for more aggressive AI where even with an alliance they'll attack you.

    Re: Remnants of Angmar Strats?

You should be able to buy Imladris depending on how recently they conquered it. Or trade for it with a settlement you don't need or know you'll be able to reclaim soon (be warned, your diplomatic...

Re: Campaign exploits to mix things up

Cheesing the Osgiliath bridge is an old tactic from Vanilla TATW

The DaC map patches up a lot of map issues like block off points already; not many exploits to be found besides the basic...
  5. Re: How to fight a battle when attacking a walled city without having ranged siege weapons

Just be careful not to thin yourself out. A two point assault should be enough for cities without ports. If you're attacking a city with a port and not bringing your own navy, you better make sure...
  6. Re: How to fight a battle when attacking a walled city without having ranged siege weapons

If my early game starts with no walled city (plenty of factions start this way) or I need a nearby walled city for a port, I'll rush in with without siege weapons. Build at least 2 siege towers (each...
  7. Re: When to use the battle autoresolve option

Autoresolve has been killing my cavalry since Rome 1
  8. Re: When to use the battle autoresolve option

I only use it when I am pressed for time or if the battle is completely one sided in my favor. It's best to be avoided in general though, as autoresolve is a quick way to kill off your cavalry units.

    Re: V3 Balance

I see this claim a lot, but that's never happened with me even with a flank attack. Unless of course this is under the assumption of a 3 vs 1 ratio, in which case that means the Marines take up more...

Re: Sindar cavalry - Useless beyond measure

The Elves of DaC don't seem too different to me, but Imladris as its own faction was definitely the most fun I've had with the the Elves as a race. Wood Elves are still "Lorien-light" but now that...

Re: Sindar cavalry - Useless beyond measure

What units other than the Greyfloods are you experience difficulty with your Sindar Cavalry?

Ugh, I've been there. Elves are such a pain to fight as Middlemen. At least Enedwaith has strong...

Re: Sindar cavalry - Useless beyond measure

There is no such thing as useless cavalry. The Sindar Cavalry in particular are meant for attacking your opponents ranged units (which are normally lightly armored) and flanking light infantry. Are...

Re: Scotland Gracul VH / VH Guide

Some people complain they're a weaker Mongols that are included just so half of Russia isn't made up of rebel settlements. But in my opinion, Cumans are fun in the sense they are the underdogs and...
  14. Re: Recommended factions for the Great Campaign Mode if one wants to have an easy start

    IMO, the easiest starts:

    1. Egypt; wealthy, multiple provinces, Hellenic units, Seleucids are your only real threat.
    2. Iceni: starting capital, weak opponents, safe from continent.
    3. Rome:...

    Re: V3 Balance

I think the Great Beasts should be removed as a unit.

I know someone worked really hard on them, and I appreciate the DaC Team's efforts, but the unit is unnecessary, especially since Gondor...

Re: How numerous are the Mongols?

There are at least 10 stacks when the Mongols first show up, then they get a steady supply of stacks every few turns or so for some time. By the time the stacks stop coming they'll be too broke to...
  17. Re: What agents actions are better for these cases/purposes?

I'm almost positive they stashed it away in the spy tree so that you have to level up. If not, then the champion should have something similar.

Re: One question about Rome II...

Yes. Rome 2 also has Guard mode as an option.
  19. Re: What agents actions are better for these cases/purposes?

I forget what it's called now, but its the spy action that cuts the movement range of the army.
  20. Re: What agents actions are better for these cases/purposes?

Spies are best for situation A if you they have the unlocked ability.

Killing the enemy general is the best for B as it will kill the moral more than the actual demoralize action IMO.

I'm pretty sure you can rebuild the crypts before the choice, but I imagine you lose the Arnor units just like with the rest of the ND units if you go mercenary.

  23. Re: What playable faction do you normally choose in the Rise of the Republic campaign?

I've never had an issue with not promoting other party generals. It's much easier to stock up on gravitas and use the political abilities of your high ranking female characters.

    If you have...
  24. Re: Battle tactics when playing as the Romans in the Rise of the Republic campaign

You are correct. Save that running for when it counts.
  25. Re: Battle tactics when playing as the Romans in the Rise of the Republic campaign

I'm going to be honest, I can't recall a battle in my Rome playthrough where I was the initiator on the open field unless it was mopping up or heavily sided in my favor, in which case I autoresolve....

Not that I've seen, but MOS has that available.
  27. Re: Battle tactics when playing as the Romans in the Rise of the Republic campaign

Wall cities are pretty easy to handle in RotR. Keep your walls manned with sword armed units as most of your enemies should be using hoplites or other spears.

In towns and villages try to lure...
  28. Re: What playable faction do you normally choose in the Rise of the Republic campaign?

Hard. I mainly just appease them and try to get as many political marriages as possible. Same as you would in the Grand Campaign. Keep your power strong and their loyalty to at least 10 and you're...
  29. Re: What playable faction do you normally choose in the Rise of the Republic campaign?

Yes, I'm pretty sure they start out at war with you. You're going to have to play like the Suebi and try to ambush or overwhelm the Carthaginian stacks that will be heading your way very shortly....
  30. Re: What playable faction do you normally choose in the Rise of the Republic campaign?

I love the Iolei, and not juts because of the punch units. They are probably the 2nd hardest faction in the game due to their light armored units and challenging early game against Carthage. Fun...
  31. Re: Battle tactics when playing as the Romans in the Rise of the Republic campaign

Yes. Another tactic that works wonders in the Rome 2 engine is what I call the "checkerboard" formation. Get your spearmen into tight formations (hoplite wall, etc.) and spread them out like a...
  32. Re: Battle tactics when playing as the Romans in the Rise of the Republic campaign

Play like a Greek faction is my advice. Your cavalry sucks from what I remember so only use them to mop up routing units. Make a thin line of high defensive units as your anvil and use javelins as...
  33. Poll: Re: Wiki Poll 2: “What is your favourite Hellenic or Punic Culture?”

Oof, this question is a tall order. I enjoy all of these factions almost equally. Does Pontus not count? They are Hellenic in the campaign as well as using a majority of Greek troops. If they don't...
  34. Sticky: Re: Total War Saga: TROY announced! (trailer, screens & campaign map video)

  35. Re: Getting the One Ring as the Ar-Adunaim

  38. Re: Tips at conquering the whole middle-earth

  39. Re: Fighting Trolls/Olog-Hai/Great Beasts as ND

They were always recruitable to "Good" factions as mercs for the past couple of versions. Expensive, but I always recommend nabbing them if you're ever in the Misty Mountains.
  40. Re: Tips at conquering the whole middle-earth

Never done it on DaC, but was able to do it on MOS as the Orcs of Gundabad. It came down to Mordor and I facing off in an epic North vs South war. Killed Sauron with my Isengard allies (where Saruman...
