  1. Re: Questions! Questions that need answering!

No benefit at all, that was an RTW mechanic they didn't replicate in M2TW.
  2. Re: Questions! Questions that need answering!

You don't get faction-specific recruitment for any of those factions, they're regional.
  3. Re: Will there be a mini-release to neuter the new AI?

I have no idea; I assume no change is savegame compatible.
  4. Re: Will there be a mini-release to neuter the new AI?

It's not in the campaign_script, it's in the AI files.
  5. Re: 1 soldier remaining in general's bodyguard (the general) causes a disband (bug?)

Not a bug at all, there's a minimum unit size for survival at the end of a battle (it's stat_stl). However, I'm pretty sure it's set to 1 for all bodyguard units for this very reason.
  6. Re: Questions! Questions that need answering!

Which offer mercenaries. It's no good wondering about the recruitment a settlement offers without checking which building they come from first.
  7. Re: Rad compares units - a thread for balancing.

Absolutely nothing has changed on the attributes of that unit. If you're referring to something reported on the unit card in-game, that's all garbage anyway.

    Intentional and mentioned in the...

What do people make of the cavalry unit size and jav-cav changes?

    Re: Historical Gameplay Let's Plays

I wonder sometimes if Baktria's "opening crawl" should mention that the Seleukids are their conduit for Hellenistic colonists, which is why they shouldn't be so quick to reject the tribute and go to...

    Re: Indian Bodyguard Unit

They were swapped out because the AI thought they were siege equipment and it caused all sorts of problems with besieging behaviour.
  11. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

Sorry, I was wrong, there's one more that uses the glande: the Corso-Ligurian Slinger. As for your proposed dichotomy, the only unit that doesn't fit one of those two categories is the Greek Slinger....
  12. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

What do people think of the new, rewritten Foreign Colony pools (since 2.35)? Has anyone noticed any overlapping ones (giveaway will be massive recruitment available)?
  13. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

No, not any old sling with stone. A sling using a glande, which is a lead bullet. Only used by three units: Sphendonetai, the Balearic Slinger and the Skaplinai.
  14. Re: Rad compares units - a thread for balancing.

All three have "simulated lance" stats. We can't give them three weapons, so their charge value simulates the fact that they should have spears as well.

    Re: Elephants merc recruitment

It's a lower chance than the hoplite/phalangite capture scripts.

I would note that historically, elephants were captured from the losing side.
  16. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

I've cut the movement points for armies down in the build, from 250 to 200.

Your issue is the pip_modifier_value; at 1.0 it means every point you allow is 10%. A pip_max_value cap of 16 means...
  17. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

Friendly fire has always been an issue with the flatter trajectory of slingers, compared to archers and javelineers. I've never deployed them behind the line for exactly that reason, always either...

Those don't even look like our unit icons. What version are you playing?
  19. Re: Questions! Questions that need answering!

I don't think you quite appreciate how impossible it was for the ancients, with the tools they had at their disposal, to keep public order in a region as large as our provinces. They weren't just...
  20. Re: Questions! Questions that need answering!

There were no "happy provinces" in reality, that's the point. There were always simmering tensions that could blow up at any time, along with cross-border raiding by nearby nomads, tribes and...
  21. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

That's only true of infantry. Cavalry work perfectly fine with two melee weapons.
  22. Re: Questions! Questions that need answering!

Every region, irrespective of it's happiness, with the exception of your starting capital, has a chance of a revolt (which is low and has a "cooldown" so it can't happen turn after turn). This script...
  23. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

I've linked the changelog a number of times, it's up to date with R3.5.

Even if R4 is coming, the difference between v2.35 and v2.35A R3.5 is huge.

    Poll: Re: In-Depth Unit Analyses

However, if your garrison is ever called upon to fight on the battlemap, no unit is better value for money than the Hoplitai Haploi.

Sticky: Re: Fans suggestion thread for future releases

Just on this point, culture-linked recruitment is a non-starter. I'm trying to remove that last vestige of it in the socit precisely because it doesn't work very well as a mechanic. Culture changes...

    Re: EBII Minus

Not necessarily. Still collecting small tweaks and changes, we'll see whether they're material enough for a genuine final release.
  29. Sticky: Re: v2.35A R3.5 has been released - please do NOT report any bugs if you are playing with previous versions

Pergamon doesn't pay tribute, they have soldiers tithed. The Galatian raids are random. And the colonist script will pop up every turn you have colonists until turn 64, when the notifications stop.
  30. Re: Was the sarissa/pike really so ineffective in inflicting casualties on the foe?

Pikes threaten an area, they do not threaten individuals. Which is why the Gauls facing Ptolemy Keravnos were able to circumvent his phalanx by rolling under the pikes and getting inside their reach....
  31. Re: Was the sarissa/pike really so ineffective in inflicting casualties on the foe?

A pike phalanx, especially a dense one, is undirected. Most of the men in the ranks can't see the enemy, they're effectively running through a drill to keep the threat level up.

    That's completely...

  33. Re: Some impressions playing 47 turns as Seleucids in 2.35A R3.5

As has been stated, Kush is a categoric no. We don't have the culture slots or additional map regions spare to make them a worthwhile faction choice.

The only unit missing from their regional roster are the Carpathian Skaplinai (axemen). Their new elites are due an armour upgrade.

Sticky: Re: Fans suggestion thread for future releases

Quite simply, no. The revolts script is a pretty simple, but long, single-monitor script. Adding any of those sorts of nuances would hugely complicate it. If it's too frequent it can be reduced, but...
  36. Re: Rad compares units - a thread for balancing.

Regional and they look to be a later evolution of the Kardaka. Spearmen, big shields and helmets, no missiles at all.
  37. Sticky: Re: Announcement: Europa Barbarorum II 2.35A R3.5 released!

    It's in the original post, it's the post-patch file. It's R3.5.
  38. Re: Rad compares units - a thread for balancing.

The Parthian Thureophoroi are still to come, but I suspect they'll be javelin and spear, rather than bow and spear.
  39. Re: Rad compares units - a thread for balancing.

    They're a Hellenised/settler unit.
  40. Re: Was the sarissa/pike really so ineffective in inflicting casualties on the foe?

It's been left on, for the reason Hellenikon stated. AI levy phalanxes get murdered with it off.
