Yes, DEI did great here- HA still very powerful but really unlikely to absolutely destroy enemy armies on their own unlike in most TW base games and mods.
Kestrophendones
Kestrophendones and Tarantines are my favorites close to Italy while the gastrophones or crossbowmen are pretty good as well.
Norsca was a bit of a mistake but honestly not horrible in my opinion. You can still play Norsca in Warhammer 1 so it isn't LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE while CA has given out quite a few free lords etc. I'd...
Sicily, Greece, Africa, and eventually Egypt were the main sources of Roman grain though Greece wasn't growing the grain but importing it from Black Sea colonies. In the game keeping Sicily aside...
Great post PB, I would add that along with the change in the quality of cavalry there were two other important factors- the pace of operations and lethality of guns. Napoleonic era armies were...
Nice changes here- the javelin other loading animations made some units behave very erratically so this should be a big improvement.
Great idea on both of these- more evidence coming in lately...
Expand carefully- get a good small province and build up your population there before expanding. I find in my DeI campaigns I can rarely afford to expand in every direction and having a local...
Follow the chain of diplomacy/relations between the factions you want to set against each other and look for one of their friends and invite them into a war against a friend of the faction you want...
I always wondered about that- the translations I've read made it seem the Rhodesians had to be convinced to pull out their slings and ward off the archers as if they preferred not to do so. At first...
I only raise veterans in times of emergency when some army has been defeated or a new front opened suddenly. Seems a bit weird to have veterans legionaries otherwise. Then disband when the emergency...
Yeah, it is the only major unit addition mod I try to use in almost every playthru. I do Orcs will be Orcs sometimes and a few others but anytime playing anywhere near Old World try to have it turned...
Client states are definitely useful but they require some planning as you don't want to have them neighbouring each other if you can help it nor your best trade partners so that means as Rome you...
Pretty much as seleukos said above. Campaigns are more fun if you rp at least some of the time but certain faction in DeI can expand quite strongly (Basileon Oddryssos always) and then if you have...
Doesn't the Ai get some type of morale bonus from VH campaign even if it is normal battle difficulty? The melee att/def and reload bonus is only on the higher difficulties but the morale bonus is on...
Actually CA improved how civil wars work a huge amount with this patch. Before several things were counter intuitive but now it is fairly logical and there are places to check what the triggers are...
Certain factions seem far more pre-disposed to defensive alliances almost entirely based on initial conditions if they are natural allies (sharing borders with same enemies). After that it takes a...
Still trying to wrap my head around how the unit stats work in DeI. I was struggling most battles with Polybian Roman units though I did notice several reform events for other culture groups before I...
I am quite tempted to try HatG with DeI. I actually enjoyed the basic CiG but also was frustrated with naval fleets being weak and some other things so never bothered to buy HiG. I might have to put...
I quite like doing what you describe with dividing the army up and giving the AI orders to simulate less control and not being 100% in control- I've done that alot in other TWs particularly MTW2. I...
Temples are a must to increase population conversion but if you want a more gamey way you might also consider provoking a rebellion by raiding your own territory as there is a positive bonus to PO...
Yeah, makes the starting battles alot harder but you can usually outnumber in those battles and I would say getting a training champion fast to get your armies up to silver XP so you'll at least have...
So you haven't had Marian reforms yet? There is also a turn limit which is I think 80 or 100 turns for Marian plus the necessary Imperium 5/6. Check the guide if you are not past 100 turns. If you...
Do you have enough Imperium and the tech researched and enough population?
I have only 1 saved DEI battle fighting Helvetii as Rome with an army of mostly Hastati, Rorarii and various auxiliaries with a baggage train. The two Triarii and my general ended up defeating 7...
I've wondered this as well- currently I don't convert many buildings for quite awhile and still have come Celtic buildings in Italy and Punic building in Africa despite being 100 turns past...
Thanks for that comment- I hadn't realized until I read it that Rome has built in barracks. I have both auxillary and a barracks in Rome for over 100 turns. Really a waste of a building slot.
...
Still trying to figure this out myself- from what I have observed it is almost always worth to give counter-attack orders at the ends of your lines or in 1 v 1 situations. Often parts of the line...
Funny someone complains about this because I found it along with supply lines (though the losses too small when out of supplies only couple hundred per turn out of army of +3000? Should be 500 per...
Are there events to end the first Punic Wars? They were scripted to start but I've had some event messages that makes me wonder if I have to land armies in Africa or win several sea battles to get a...
Bump it up to VH. DEI is balanced for normal and the amount of armies the AI can churn out really ups the difficulty as well some of the close battles can easily be lost when all the AI units have...
If your faction has cultural aversion penalties... avoiding trade with all but close neighbours is usually best as it will simply provoke random DoW and make diplomacy much more difficult at least...
Dwarfs grow slowly and in latest patch with ME the Greenskins get the most bonuses they have had so far. Typically you have 2-3 main options for the early campaign.
1. Consolidate Silver Road...
I enjoyed Khalida VH on ME quite a bit. Still haven't actually completed the victory conditions since I gathered 1 short of the necessary books and started purging Vampires from the world- of course...
The normal thing for TW is that AI will not accept peace until they are almost defeated, or they are very far away and have some other wars going on. However if they get into a friendship block their...
Yeah, the Odrysians seem a bit strong right now. In my Roma campaign knocked them to a single minor settlement and made them a client state after they eliminated my friends the Scordisi. Then they...
Who are you trying to make friends with? Influence is definitely useful but regular diplomatic relations can still over power it so best used in conjunction to speed up the process and has most...
The AI gets income bonuses that players don't get unless you are playing on Easy.
Really for Bretonnia there are alot less reasons not to confederate since their borders are relatively compact...

There are also dozens maybe hundreds of books written Warhammer Fantasy some of which are quite good so I have heard. I've never read anything...
The ladders are still living, if you look at a city walls after it is conquested you can still see the ladders now entwined with vines and woody growth- well you could before CA changed the cities to...
