The Sasanian Peshmerga didn't exist, and no Sasanian warrior ever dressed like that.
On masks, we have a few early iconographical sources that hint at them. Firstly is a shell from the Persian gulf showing a lancer, secondly is a graffito from Dura showing an armoured archer. In both...
Excellent idea, and a fascinating time period. The Arsacids should have the Sasanians (in Stakhr), Qaren (in Dihistan), and Suren (in Sistan) as their main vassals. Hatraenes should also be a vassal....

DEZART DAZ NOT FORGEEV
Bashar doesn't understand the DEZART like we do
how it geevs layf
how IT keeeelz
I think enough of transoxiana and afghanistan is in the map to justify having these factions. Although granted they would not be fully developed...
Guys, this is amazing. Truly fantastic work. The Sasanians look and play excellently.
A suggestion, if I may - is it possible to add the Kushanshahs, the Sakanshahs, Sindh, the Lakhmids, and some...
Can you post some images of the Balkans helmet please?
and which late period rock releifs are you referring to?
impressive images :-)
thanks
The helmet fr the armoured cavalry looks strange. Why not use one of the many known helmets?
They're pretty awful as well, tbh
IB1 tried that layout - with a different cavalry unit for each of the noble houses. To be honest it didn't really work IMHO - too many units were too similar with little more than aesthetic...
Wuzurgan and Washpuhragan??
Come on man, can you imagine a unit mixed up with Mihrans and Sasanians and Karens and Ispabhudhans and Kanarangiyan?
Most dysfunctional unit ever, amirite
Imagine...
Ahiga, my JSTOR subscription was cancelled when I graduated but I have a bunch on my computer. Will look through and see what comes from where.
16 - 20 including or excluding regional specific units? Or would they be AOR?
I offered to advise CA (would have done it for free as well - although didn't mention this) about their Sasanian units, but never heard back. i cri evrytiem ;_;
Although my advice would have been...
Except the state of research is a thousand times better than it was when RTW1 and BI came out*. It's not hard to come by anymore either, once you leave the confines of Osprey and Montvert and peruse...
MMFA - wait, there are FOUR other Sasanian reenactors out there?
Who are the others?
I'm not counting Ardeshir Radpour because his kit is just as poor (if not worse) than the Osprey books.
Also,...
Winged and horned helmets would be rare, reserved only for Kings and Princes and the like. The Marzbans and Spahbeds had their own specific diadems to be worn around helmets which is detailed in...
In terms of the predecessors to the Islamic Ghulams slave warriors, theres no evidence of such in Sasanian Iran. The predecessors were likely from Sogdiana, namely the Chakirs.
As for the preview:...
Do you mean, like a page? An attendant who would help the knight get armoured up, equip him on the field, hold banners and parasols and such?
If so, yes - we see such figures on rock reliefs from...
Yayattasa, yes, that's what I meant. This will look better and be more accurate also.
No, what I mean is individual warriors within the unit can be equipped differently, albeit still with 2 arms.
Correct me if I'm way off with this, but I swear I have seen this sort of setup in games...
Only at a walk or stationary, not during the actual charge.
Reno, I use a horse at some events but have yet t construct period horse kit.
philosopher, tactically there is little difference between sword, axe, and mace, although the sword is a little...
Of course I have evidence, it is in Khorasani's book as I listed before. BTW, I never said common - in fact I specified that these warriors with two handed swords should be an elite crack troop.
...
Photos and articles are copyrighted so unfortunately I cannot post here.
BTW, on the link between Gandhara and Sasanians you can also read WÓJCIKOWSKI, 2014, GRAFFITO FROM DURA EUROPOS AND HYBRID...
Phil, please read the references I listed above before throwing your rants and accusations.
i don't need to explain two handed swords as they have been found. Do you even know what they looked...
I absolutely love this mod - probably my favourite out there. Awesome work guys!
i have a few suggestions, if you are interested.
1) Chinese language voicemod. The vanilla voices are a little out...
The Kings and princes would wear them over armour sometimes maybe (seen at Firuzabad a few centuries earlier, and in Sogdian / Xinjiang art on kings and gods as jewellery), but not regular warriors.
KeyKhusrow, isn't that story a good millennium or so before the Sasanians?
Is there a primary source for the units Zhayedan, Pushtigban, and Gyan-Avspar as mentioned in Farrokh's book?
TCP, please read the reference I have already listed. Also:
the heck are you talking about????
I will try find the reference. BTW, I never mentioned "dismounted cavalry." In the meantime, I...
TCP, you may wish to read Al-Sarrafs article I mentioned earlier. Khorasani has a good chapter on Sasanian swords and discussed the two handed swords. You should als familiarise yourself with the...
Good map.
The only major flaw I can see, is that Transoxiana needs to be extreeeeeeeemely province-dense. It should probably be as dense as the balkans are, reflecting the number of different...
Good stuff!
The only two corrections I would suggest are to remove the chest disks (royal insignia!) and replace the splint greaves with horizontally banded greaves instead, like these:
...
Correction, it should be "pahikafishn" or "henih"
See: MacKenzie, A concise Pahlavi dictionary, and Moshtagh-Khorasani, A lexicon of Iranian arms and armour, and Tafazoli, A lexicon of terms of...
"Pahidukht" means assault / attack / charge, see McKenzie.
The correct MP would be "zrehposh," "zreh / zreg" is armour, "posh" means wearing.
There's a large amount of overlap between Gandharan...
I've read the Osprey book, it was mediocre at best. Nicolle's book is a better introduction but still falls very, very short in terms of equipment.
Neither of the images you have shown show...
