  1. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

Mgr Aleksić is the leading man in that subject, and in other subjects as well. You really should read his articles. He is continuing the work of other great scholars.
  2. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

HAH! That's the author of the book I mentioned! :D
He also wrote a great article about military reforms of Tsar Dušan.

As you can read from the article, the author distinguishes two groups of...
  3. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

The swords I posted are two handed swords - unless the users had really, really big hands, heh.

However, there are indeed one handed swords with the characteristic S-shaped guard. However,...

  5. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

For the most part, swords aren't made to be used against opponents that are wearing metal armor. Some swords of the era do have features (narrow points, for example) that help them make their way...
  6. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

I have one interesting observation about two handed swords from Serbia - few of them have narrow, needle like points. To me, that suggests that they were mostly used like big swords ought to be used...
  7. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

That's another name, I guess. One of the "problems" of our modern age is that we attempt to classify items based on shared characteristics and qualities. That's actually quite hard to do with arms...
  8. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

You mean hand-and-a-half sword? Those can be used in one hand when the situation demands it (if you're fighting from horseback, for example), but they too are primarily meant to be used with both...
  9. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

Mgr Marko Aleksić's "Medieval Swords from Southeastern Europe. Material from 12th to 15th Century" is your go-to book. It has detailed info about typology, chronology, ornamentation etc. It also has...
  10. Re: Tsardoms Total War - FACTION PREVIEW: Tsardom of Serbia (Complete overhaul)

Swords meant to be used with two hands. A whole bunch have been found in Serbia. There's even a local style of two handed sword. I can post some pictures and links.

What you also must consider is that elites and to a certain extent, professionals, are a rarity in this mod. Not only in unit size, but also in pool size, refresh rate and regional availability.

In my opinion, this isn't gamey if the cavalry force is led by a junior FM and is sufficient to besiege the city on its own, i.e. it has at least a 2 to 1 advantage over the defenders.
