    Are gates intended to be so weak? It hardly takes any effort to break them down. For example, I'm defending Fornost Erain, which is supposed to be a fortress, and the enemy literally breaks it down...

    What hotfix? When I downloaded the bugfix, the .rar file is titled "MOS_1.70_patch_01-03. I would think all patches and bugfixes since 1.7 would be in that; not in the 1.7 download.

    That's the problem. To edit the files, use Notepad++. Editing the files in basic windows notepad will cause the issue you're having. Download Notepad++ and edit the files using that program.
