    Is the whole left arm and hand assigned to “left upper arm” (if I remember the name of the bone correctly)?

    You may have had some other submod installed previously and then installed UMIP over it.
    Clean BC2.4.2 with no submod installed required.

    Can you post bc_log.txt in \Medieval II Total War\logs...

    Nah, in 2.3.2, for example the unit “Janissarie Heavy Axmen” was there but I thought it was not suitable for the
    time period and renamed it to something like “Ghulam Heavy Axmen”, using the same...

    The crash didn't repeat itself, which implies that it was memory leak crash...

    About the crashing issue, actually it seems rather concerning to me, as
    it might end up implying that Mediaval 2 engine can’t handle...

    This mod also modifies important core files for the models to be loaded, so it's most likely to be incompatible.

    I really liked the change too, because I also felt it was weird to find a man with mere cloth surviving multiple arrows... But now armor matters a lot and I like it.
