Do you have any softkeys on your keyboard that act as multimedia keys?
Those sometimes don't register as being "muted", while they do mute your sounds....
Is this only on headphones or also on...
Can you confirm if it helped or not please?
Did you try any of this?

Have you tried any of this?

It's a guide I wrote to get RTW working on win10 over...
Try the Steam "verify game cache" thingy, after uninstalling everything & re-downloading everything.
I have never tried any of that, since M2TW works flawlessly for me.
However, this is a purely RTW related thread, let's try to keep it that way please.
@Rocketbobcat - What is/are the exact...
On the first page of this guide, I posted some preferences.txt files (in the spoiler tags).
Try those, because there's nothing wrong with your build/specs.
Yeah that's true for RTW, not so sure about M2TW, because I don't have a preferences file in my preferences folder of M2TW..
Well first of all I would recommend you check out any solutions posted here (or start a new thread):

Hey Nizam, I'm glad R1 works better for you now!
I am not sure how to help you with Medieval2:TW though.
Because I have never encountered any problems with it whatsoever, I never bothered trying...
I'm pretty sure there's another thread about this btw..
Anyways, some pointers:
Dual core is enough. Don't bother going over i3 price-wise.
4gb of RAM is enough. Don't bother going over this...
I remember some other posts about this.. Lemme try to find them for you.
Here's one:...
Hmm... I have read about people activating the game on Steam even though they only owned the disc version..?
Have you tried activating the game on Steam and following the guide for win10 (also helps with win7)
Edit: this guide...
It's called: "AA_QUALITY:AA_HIGH" (or whatever yours is set to)
Since you have the game on Steam, this gets a lot easier. Have you tried this yet:

This should work for mod-foldered mods (like XGM for example).
Just remove the launch option "-mod:xgm" from the steam launch options, and you launch the vanilla game again.
Not sure if you actually mentioned this before, but are you using any mods?
Any mods at all?
Well my bad then...
Lemme try to find something tomorrow... waaayyyy too sleepy now.. sorry!
EDIT: Sorry for my first response btw.. but when I basically googled this exact problem it came up...
I always thought this was intended..? o.0'
There is no LEGAL dvd version of the game, so I think I cannot help you man... sorry!
Try buying the game on Steam, in which case I am glad to help you with anything and everything!
Hey np man!
I must admit I have 0 experience with the CD version though....
I can only help you out with Steamversions of the game if you run into any troubles :p
Imho always stick to win7 lol...
Been trying to get used to win10 since it came out and I hate it.
Also I never had any issues whatsoever with RTW on win7, where I did have to do a couple of...
First off, let's link you to another post about this issue on TWCenter:
...
If you have Directx11 (which came with win7), you do not need to install directx9.
Seems like a compatibility issue, have you tried running the game in compatibility-modes yet?
For example...
So you either have lag, or you don't see flaming effects..
Not much of an issue in my mind to be honest.
Have you tried re-installing yet?
And have you tried lowering AA and/or graphic settings?
Have you tried re-installing the game?
Does the problem persist even when installing to a different hard-drive?
Do you play the game from disc or over Steam?
Such simple questions might answer...
Did this work for you BlueBert?
Might be handy for future reference if it did..
Also, did you have any other issues that could perhaps be fixed with this stuff:...
Hey no problem man, although you did all the fixing yourself :p
It was your idea to delete everything that had to do with RTW in the first place.
BTW: If you like simple things, try out this mod:...
So have you done this and does it work for you now?
Because it seems like you have installed a mod in the past that asks for these resource-files and still does, even after only re-installing the...
I'm not understanding why the Vanilla game would ask you for resources that don't exist in the Vanilla game.
I'm sorry I meant the mod that requires those resources.
IIRC those 3 resources are not in the vanilla game.

Have you tried re-installing the game yet?
That should fix any missing files.
Have you tried re-installing yet?
I can play a battle in triple speed with normal FPS, unless it's a massive battle on unit setting Huge. In which case I'm sure it has nothing to do with hardware anymore, but with the game's engine.
I just upgraded from:
Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS with an intel i7 3770 3.4GHz and 2x 4GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance from a WD 500GB HDD and Asus GeForce 630 2GB
To:
Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS with an intel i7...
I think it is a limitation of the game's engine to run on triple speed with anything higher than "small" unit sizes..
Not a 100% on this, but this is what seems most likely to me after years of...
