Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
There is more then just the descr_regions file to this. The most obvious additional (and essential) file is the data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names file. Must also be the file with the longest name. If you like things simple and uncomplicated (and boring) leave it at this. If you want to go a bit more dedicated read on:
data\world\maps\base\descr_regions.txt
There are a couple of lines that need to be filled sensibly for the game to work properly.
Line one: region name
Line two: city name
Line three: faction creator (determines the loyalty of the city, eg whom it will rebel to), independent from descr_strat entry, this cannot be the slave faction!
Line four: Rebel type (see data\descr_rebel_factions.txt)
Line five: RGB numericals (color code, duh)
Line six: hidden resources, multiple listing does not have a comma,, trading resources have no effect!
Line seven: triumph value (left over from RTW unless someone can tell me otherwise) has to be 5, else CTD
Line eight: level of farming\pop increase anything above 6 is ridiculous: 5000 city with no farming will grow at 4.5% at level 10.
Line nine: religions must total 100 (percent), else another CTD
Note: the entry for a units regional name still works like it did in Rome Total War. You would enter a line after the region name (line one) looking like this:
Code:
legion: Gotland_Legion
data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt
Simple data base consisting of two (three with legion name) lines for each region:
Code:
{Island_of_Cyprus}Island of Cyprus
{Nicosia}Nicosia
{Gotland_Legion}Visbys Finest
The first line is for the region name and the second line for the city name. Last line is for the legion's name. The names in brackets have to agree with the entries in the descr_regions file. The second part of each line can be changed at any time.
data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_regions_and_settlement_name_lookup.txt
Pretty much the same as the previous file, just with out the second part of the line and no parentheses:
Code:
Island_of_Cyprus
Nicosia
not required
data\world\maps\base\descr_sounds_music_types.txt
Three lines of entry here to get the right music:
Code:
music_type [culture name]
regions [region name]
faction [faction name]
data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_mercenaries.txt
This is where you get to define the bad guys and their area of appearance. Basically three lines:
Code:
pool Scotland_Ireland
regions Scottish_Lowlands Scottish_Highlands
unit merc cog, exp 0 cost 200 replenish 0.36 - 1.0 max 1 initial 1 religions { catholic } crusading
unit merc cog, exp 0 cost 1000 replenish 0.02 - 0.10 max 1 initial 1
unit Mercenary Crossbowmen exp 0 cost 860 replenish 0.04 - 0.13 max 2 initial 1
There is an exhausting explanation at the top of the file for all the entries so I will not repeat it, gimme a break, man!

Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
One is glad to be of service:buba:
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
Nice timing, was just trying to figure out what lines seven and eight meant last night. Was rather perplexed that someone who saw fit to make a "Add new regions" tutorial would not have included this, but in fact this wasn't in the faction.region tutorials. +rep
One question I have about the mercenaries file which I can't seem to understand. What are all the RATE_* lines after the explanation of the file format, these seem to just be there randomly, as I don't see any mention of a rate line further in the file. My guess was they were just giving example lines, but I have no clue =/. At any rate they're commented out so I guess I don't have to worry about them, but an explanation to their intent would be nice.
Cheers,
Augustus
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
The Rate replenish lines are only of informative nature. It gives you an idea which rates to use if you want to achieve a certain unit replenishment rate.
If you look further down in the file you will see an entry like this:
Code:
unit Mercenary Crossbowmen exp 0 cost 860 replenish 0.04 - 0.13 max 2 initial 1 end_year 1350
Instead of giving a fixed rate like in the EDB this rate is variable.
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
I need help with the Imperial_Campaign_regions_and_settlement_names because when i do that there comes something i dont understand
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
You have to open the txt (not string.bin.txt) file with notepad or notepad++
Then you will be able to read it properly and can modify the entries as well.
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
You can add over 100% in religion i tried it by a mistake once...
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
Great tutorial!
Now I finally know how to get mercenaries and sound in...

Hi Giga,
nice tut! I'm not sure at 100% but 90%, line 3 seems to be for the creator faction, to which the people of this province will be most loyal.
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
That's what I thought in the beginning, but it is not the case - hence the end of the sentence:
Quote:
independent from descr_strat entry
, which determines to whom they revolt\are loyal to.

Sorry Giga,
but after testing this for more times now, giving the attribute "egypt" for example to London or Arhus, doesn't change the appearance of a city, but only the "loyal-status"! At least with the Kingdoms.exe.

Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
I will check it again.
Yup, you are right: it is the descr_strat entry that changes the appearance, not the descr_region one. Loyality (whom they rebel to) is the right thing. I will have to change it. Thanks for pointing that out.
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
Look guys, I don't have that folder text (data\text\....) I read somewhere that i have to unpack the game but i don't know how. Can you post a link to that tutorial because i can't find it ... pls
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
You do have a folder called tools? If so then you also have a folder in there called unpacker. In there is a file called unpack_all. Run that file and have a look into the ReadMe regarding some file that need to be deleted.
Little Tip: use the search function before posting, there must be at least a 100 posts describing this.
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions

nooow what shoudl i do know for playing mod?:) when i choose england or france and then click to start, nothing hapopenes going back to main menu:):)

http://rapidshare.com/files/283252213/Selim.rar.html
after these i just added map.FE and victory conditions:)
i can see map fe in fanction choose menu but not conditions:):)
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
If an error returns you to the main menu, then there will be an entry in the log detailing that error. You can find the log in the main folder (or in a subfolder called log if it set by the mod's configuration).
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
lol,i am just trying to learning modding.it just not opening game and returning mein menu.
its nearly like what you tell in your world modding touritral
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
I have tried this for hours, switching everything I can think of but it still won't start the campaign. I check the error logs and nothing is there. I checked all spelling and everything. I tried to add a region west of denmark. ARRGH! Can you do it for me? lol
Re: Creating a World Adding detailed Regions
Silly question: did you draw your region in map_regions.tga and added the pixel for the settlement?
