"Unload the debugger" bug blocks RTW & M2TW disks
Salam :)
After installing the Service Pack 2 on my Windows Vista 64 (maybe a coincidence), I have the infamous "Unload the debugger and retry" windows message everytime I load the Rome TW Gold or the Medieval II TW disks. It happens when I try to launch the game.
Now, I can't play any Med2 or RTW based mods :( (I didn't play vanilla for years) because of that :censored:"debugger" bug. Dam' you Microsoft...
Curiously, Med2 Kingdoms runs fine so I can play Kg based mods like "Thrid Age TW" (Tolkien stuff, see my sig). Too bad for Broken Crescent, Ruins of Glory or Rise of Persia, just to mention my favorites.
Any clues, technical solutions etc. ?
For the record:
- The Windows "help" :whistlingsolution is obsolete and doesn't work.
- I shut down Spyware Doctor (my "shield") = same fail.
- I searched on "tech" forums = apparently this bug is here 'til 2001 (yikes!) and is regularly brought back... by Microsoft (Window) Updates! Some people never learn...
- Running my computer on "safe mode" is not an option.

I'm sure I'm not the only one in the mud, so... I beg for your answer & solution :help:

I wasn't aware that this Tech section even existed so THANKS I guess :)
Re: "Unload the debugger" bug blocks RTW & M2TW disks
Install your game into a "non-Program Files" folder.
Vista is notorious for protecting the files installed into the Program Files section of your hard drive. Ironically enough, this protection usually ends up screwing you more than helping you.
Therefore, try creating a folder for your games in C: drive but not in Program Files.

THANKS :) +Rep for advice.
I'll try that at least with my RTW Gold & RTW mods. Now I know how to spend my next Sunday alone = uninstall, re-install, the TW player curse.
I'll also try to take out this Vista "protection". I have disabled Win. Defender (what a fail this program) & I'm contacting PC Tools for help cuz It works fine when I disable my Spyware Doc+Antivirus.
