The middle picture is stunning, any details where that is? Somewhere in the Bucegi Mountains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucegi_Mountains) if I'm not mistaken?

Romania's landscape reminds me a lot of Kentucky in the US. Especially the areas around the Appalachian Mountains, the features just look similar somehow. Probably why they've filmed a few movies about West Virginia there. :) Romania is definitely on my list of areas to travel. It's relatively cheap, as is Albania and Hungary for American travel compared with Greece or Italy.
Always welcome to visit my friend.
Since it's the middle of the summer, a little trip down to the Black Sea would be quite the recommendation.
Plus, for all of you history buffs, you can visit former Greek colonies - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histria_(ancient_city)
Well done Basil. Because of you, Im now Brasov for the secound time this week. Hopefully I get to paraglide over the beatiful mountains surrounding the city center.

Bas you owe us some nice picture from the shores of Romania with summer tones please!
(Also some nightlife would be appreciated as well.... :D )
And here's a couple of pictures from the trip through rural Romania! Transylvania was the target, with a little trip to Viscri as well, Prince Charles' Romanian spot.

Bit of shameless advertising here, but if you want more pictures, I wrote a blog post about the whole trip - http://www.randomwander.com/rural-romania/
Lovely photos Basileos! I really need to do a proper trip around Transilvania. I have only been around Brasov, Sibiu and Cluj. Missing all these wonderful small towns with the fortified churches.
Hmm, do you mean that as a joke or did that happen? I can see bars trying to rip off foreign tourists if they are really dodgy but $1,000 is ridiculous. I wouldn't worry about that alcohol is ridiculously cheap compared to more western countries. But where I would suggest being careful is with taxi drivers, they are infamous for trying to over-charge foreign tourists (and even local ones)!
Only in Moldova! No taxi driver in Cluj has ever tried to screw me. Those in Suceava, Iasi, and Neamt are another story though. For some reason they always forget to turn on the meter. Oh how they jump when I start speaking to them in Romanian))
Thank you for the appreciation
Definitely a good place to go now, the roads are proper (yes, roads in Romania are quite good now) and you can easily drive around and enjoy the scenery.
Oh, and summer pictures and nightlife, stay tuned :D
A bit late, since summer is almost over, buuut it should give you a taste for next year. :D

So, apparently Middle Earth looks a lot like Romania (or the other way around :P).

So, if you ever fancy seeing the Lord of the Rings setting live but can't go to New Zeeland, come here instead.
Pretty much hit the nail on the head there Sir Adrian ;)
Haha this is really cool. I can't get over how close they resemble the LotR stuff! Crazy!
