Has anyone ever noticed the similarities between Napoleon and Hitler? Both where thrown back by British and Russians (ignore America here), both had to retreat before Moscow, both were eventually defeated at sea and kept in port. Just a thought.
that's also the end of the similarities I should say
No similarities to me.
Yeah...those are the only two similarities. Differances below. *Napoleon, benevolent dictatorship that, like Napoleon or not, we have to admit was considered very liberal at its time. vs *Hitler, authoritarian, fascist dictatorship *Napoleon, was the first European ruler in basically all of history to give religous freedom to the Jews vs *Hitler, no comment here *Napoleon, military and political genius vs *Hitler, political genius (let's face it, Hitler's generals led the Wehrmacht to victory) *Napoleon, no mustache vs *Hitler, worst mustache ever *Napoleon, awesome vs *Hitler...bleh
May I point out your name is Marechal Ney?
Yes yes, call me biased, but the entire Napoleonic Scholarly World is, sadly. The British seem to hate him, the American public reads books that say he was the antichrist (a British propaganda scheme from 1805), the former Coalition countries seem to respect him but dislike him, and even the French slightly like him, but are not really that prominent anymore as Napoleonic historians. Also, the French applaud him on his military victories, not necessarily his character. All the above groups, with the exception of the French, tend to often be biased against Napoleon. Do you know what the only group of people in the world that seem to, on an average consensus, LIKE Napoleon? It is American Napoleonic Historians...odd. BTW, Michel Ney was perhaps even cooler than Napoleon in some respects.
I think that I am one of the few British people that find interest in Napoleon
