    Bruh, I loved your Interstellar game. I'd be down for the new and improved version 2.

    @Ikaroqx
    I certainly hope this community isn't dying! That would be a shame

    @Sleeping Bear and High Fist
    I'm in the same boat. Not a whole lot a free time on my hands, but I would love to participate in an RTD.

    You're in luck Rogue, because I just completed a new rule-set. My Interstellar Civilizations Map Game will be launched when War of the Ring finishes. Check out the map here: http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s432/WarriorCat5/GalaxyMap1_zps041ec1a3.png~original . None of my games are pure role-to-dodge anymore. And the players, not the game moderator, roll the dice to resolve combat on their own.

    Besides Interstellar Civilizations, I have 3 other ideas: Settlers of Catan (based on the board game), Rise and Fall of Empires (historical simulator), and Fantasy Wars (sandbox, magic works like the guild system in EWs). The first one is pretty much ready to play. The last two I'm still working on the maps for.

    Cheers! Cats

    What really is the state of RTD games? Personally, I'm not sick of them and I find them fun, but I can't be bothered making up factions and doing my moves, writing role-play, conducting diplomacy and working out alliance webs. Then there's being the GM - it's just too much for me now, I don't know how coped with EWVII. Have people just moved on?

    Kirila's Just Another RTD was refreshing because it was so simple, with hardly any rules.

    The RtD playing community is dead in the Coliseum. Sorry.

    Sounds like you can't be bothered with playing a game in general. A good strategy game involves moves and conducting diplomacy. And detailed factions and role-play just makes a game come alive, man, let's people immerse themselves.

    I've designed my games so the Game Master doesn't do much. Dice rolls are only needed for combat and agent missions, nothing else. And rolz.org with its dice logs prevents players from lying about rolls. You should check out my War of the Ring game. It's actually really simple compared to what I've tried to do in the past. All I have to do is update the map once a week. And clarify rules.

    I don't think I checked out Kirila's game. Can you send me a link to it?

    Cheers! Cats

    We played it a while ago. You might have been in it, I don't remember what faction you were though. I was Provence.

    We could attack three regions every turn and we'd take them all every time. There were no agents, ships or rolls - except when the wars started. The intention of it was for rapid expansions and quick wars without making alliances and working out a whole bunch of rolls and people's moves.

    What you said, that's right. I agree that diplomacy and role-play really makes the game come alive, but the pressure I felt to keep doing that, and to do my part of uphold the quality of whatever RTD we were doing was too much.

    I haven't joined your RTD because of those reasons, but mainly because although I'm a fan of Tolkien I've only read the hobbit and the trilogy once, and watched the films. I haven't read the appendixes or Tolkien's other works, so my knowledge of the lore is very scant. I wouldn't like to take a faction when someone else would have a much better knowledge of them that me, and they can do them justice. Imagine if I took Gondor, but didn't mention any of the previous kings, or Minas Ithil, or Numenor - that wouldn't be the real Gondor, that'd be Standard Medieval Fantasy Faction #3716 with the name 'Gondor' tacked on.

    No, I didn't play that game. I just posted at the end when it was dead saying I was about to launch the game I'm currently hosting. Lol.

    It's interesting. I see what Kirila was trying to do: allowing players to expand quickly through rebel territory. I created a solution for that in my games: rebel regions are defended by rebel militia of 2 units. It's relatively easy to wipe them out and expand quickly, but it's not a steamroll like in JAM.

    Hmm, I understand... but I don't care. At this point I just want people to play my game. Role-play can be crap, but I really need to know if my game mechanics work. If the rules are fair, make sense, etc. So, no pressure about the role-play. I just want you to play and have fun.

    Rogue has disappeared again, so Gondor is available. I, as Mordor, am going to stomp Gondor out of existence unless someone plays as them. Ikaroqx, if you don't want fantasy faction #3716 called 'Gondor', then this is all one needs to know about Tolkien's Gondor:
    Gondor History

    After Númenór was destroyed, those that survived sailed east to Middle-earth. These men were lead by Isildur and Anárion. They founded the kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor in 3320 S.A. They built the grand city of Osgiliath to be the capital, as well as the cities of Minas Arnor (Tower of the Sun) and Minas Ithil (Tower of the Moon).

    The exiled Númenórians allied with the Elves in 3430 S.A. to form the Last Alliance of Elves and Men to resist Sauron’s power. After winning a great battle at Dagorlad, this Alliance pressed on into Mordor and besieged Barad-dûr. Sauron came out with a huge army to confront them and killed Gil-galad, Elendil, and Anárion. Isildur, however, managed to cut the One Ring from Sauron, which “killed” the Dark Lord. Elrond told Isildur to destroy the Ring in Mount Doom, but the man refused. The Second Age ended and the Third began. The Ring betrayed and killed Isildur in 2 T.A.

    Gondor kept a watch on Mordor and prospered at first. But incredible wealth created a culture of decadence and Gondor began to decline. A civil war known as the Kin-strife tore apart Gondor in the 1400s. Many of Gondor’s best troops were slain and Umbar was lost. In 1636 T.A. the Great Plague reached Gondor and decimated its major population centers. The symbolic white trees in Minas Arnor and Minas Ithil died. The watch on Mordor ended and evil creatures began to return there. Osgiliath and Minas Ithil were abandoned. Minas Arnor became Gondor’s new capital in 1640 T.A.

    Easterlings invaded Gondor in the 1900s and Gondor faced a succession crisis when its king and both his sons died in battle. The disagreements lead to the establishment of the Stewards of Gondor. One Steward, Cirion, asked a tribe of Northmen to help Gondor in the war against the Easterlings. This tribe agreed and defeated the enemy army in 2510 T.A. The grateful steward gifted the province of Rohan to this tribe and the tribe settled there and became known as the Rohirrim. Their leader, Eorl, swore an oath that Rohan would always be an ally to Gondor.

    In 2000 T.A. the Nazgul, led by the Witch-King, returned to Mordor and took the abandoned city of Minas Ithil, renaming it Minas Morgul (Tower of Sorcery). Minas Arnor was renamed Minas Tirith (Tower of Guard) as it fought against the evil forces from Morgul. Sauron returned to Mordor and declared himself openly in 2951 T.A. Gondor is now fighting desperately against the Dark Lord’s growing forces.

    Dol Amroth History
    After Númenór was destroyed those that survived sailed east to Middle-earth. One of these Númenórians, named Imrazôr, arrived at the elven port-city of Edhellond in the Belfalas Peninsula. He married an elven lady named Mithrellas and had a son named Galador. This son founded a new city for the exiled Númenórians upon a hill named Dol Amroth, or “The Hill of Amroth.”

    The city was named after the hill (which itself was named after a noble elf) and grew into a large and prosperous city. It became part of the Kingdom of Gondor, but remained semi-independent under the rule of its princes. Dol Amroth became fortified during the Kin-Strife to protect itself from the Corsairs of Umbar. The people of the city are excellent sailors and craftsmen and furnish Gondor with fleets. The current ruler of the city is Prince Imrahil and he must prepare for a new wave of Corsair attacks that is about to be unleashed.

    But, as I said, I don't care about role-play right now. What I want is my game to be played. Cheers! Cats

    Oi, I'm still here! But don't worry, Gondor is not interested in invading just yet. We are playing the defensive war.

    JAM was different and fun. But to be honest, I'm itching for something more complex. That's why I find War of the Ring exciting, even though I know little of the lore. Yeah, I know, roleplay makes it more interesting. But with an interesting enough game, I can have fun even with little rp (imho, anyways). I just wish there were more people playing....
