Hello everyone, I'm trying to pick up a few books to read over the summer, and I saw that Tom Holland has a new book called The Forge of Christendom: The End of Days and the Epic Rise of the West. Holland is the same guy who wrote the book Rubicon about the end of the Roman Republic, and I found it was a great read. Has anyone read his latest work, and if so, what are your opinions of it?
Hi there no I have not read those books, but they sound interesting. Maybe you could post a synopsis on them?
Well I haven't read the former yet, and it's been a while since I read Rubicon, but it was basically just a narrative of the last 100 years of the Roman Republic.
I have many books to finish or turn the first page of, I tend to read a lot more on the Internet. I'd like to have a personal library someday.
I found e-edition of John VA Fine's The Late mediaeval Balkans , one of the rare books in English dealing this region and period available online.
Who is that?

Hi everybody, seems like the group's been quite for .....quite some time it seems. Anyways, just dropping by to say hi. (And for the usual bio crap) - I've been gaining a LOT of interest in the late Roman and early medieval periods. I'm not sure exactly how it all works as I'm JUST beginning to study that time frame...persay. Anyways, I have purchased a few books to fill out my library on the subject and I hope to get a start on reading them after school is done. I see that not much chit-chat goes on around buuuut I hope to become acquainted with whoever drops by from time-to-time [and what do ya know.. I spelled acquainted right on the first go!]
Hey all, new here. I am really fond of the High/Late Middle Ages and Byzantine Empire, I have some books on my bookshelf focusing on these time periods. I am still learning things about them even now, but I hope to be a great fit here.
